Editing metadata in Songbird
Hi,
I have recently decided to make it my mission to edit and correct metadata and album art for my entire 100gb library (Don't ask why... ). While I realise songbird has an automatic system for both - gathering metadata information and album art, it isn't always correct. Something I noticed was that the metadata being collected by songbird does something weird: it puts a "different" artist under Album artist compared to artist. What I mean is:
Artist: Rage Against The Machine
Album: The Battle of Los Angeles
Album Artist: Rage Against the Machine
Notice the third word: 'The' in artist and 'the' in Album Artist. While this may seem to be something small, it means that every song which has a different Album Artist to Artist is listed with an album picture in Media Flow. Meaning, two songs from the same album are displayed under the same album name but each with a separate Album picture to its name in Media Flow.
Ex:
So my question is this: In my quest to edit and complete my entire Library's metadata, is there and easier way of doing it than editing the metadata to ensure Album Artist = Artist?
If not, can anyone tell me whether, when I am doing it the hard way, editing the metadata is getting written back to the file? That is, if I then transfer that file to a different Login/Profile/PC will I have to edit the metadata all over again or is it something that gets recorded to the file?
Cheers!

Inappropriate?"In my quest to edit and complete my entire Library's metadata, is there and easier way of doing it than editing the metadata to ensure Album Artist = Artist?"
--> You could try muscibrainz picard to fetch metadata... You never know if the metadata is correctly saved on any server. But at least with musicbrainz picard you have a fairly controllable way of doing this.
"getting written back to the file"
--> Yes, metadata is written to the file and will be be available if you transfer it to any other PC

Inappropriate?cheers mate musicbrainz looks promising. Its also heartening to know that the metadata is getting written back to the file itself.
Many thanks!
