File management
In foobar2000 I can select some songs from library and move (or copy) them. This is useful for example if I want to copy a selection to a mass storage device or burn it to create an MP3-CD.
I'm thinking about making an addon which would allow this. Does it make sense? Maybe this should be merged with the transcoding functionality.
What knowledge would I need to create such an addon? I suppose XUL and JavaScript, anything else? It should look and operate just like foobar2000 if you select under right click File operations -> Copy to ...

Inappropriate?Do you mean that when you drag selected items in your Songbird library to outside of the program window, you want it copy/move the actual MP3s to that location or program? If so, I think this is a great idea. You can do it in iTunes, and it is useful for the scenarios that you described, and also for opening songs in other programs. If you want to open a song from your library in another program like Capo or GarageBand/Logic, you could just drag and drop the song from the Songbird library to the other program, instead of having to find the MP3 file manually.
This topic does not detail those features, but it does say that the company is working on some file management features for future releases: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
Hopefully they plan on incorporating something like this.

Inappropriate?Hi Murphy, thanks for the links to the two topics. I didn't thought about drag'n'drop, but it should work this way too. I would prefer to implement it via right click menu too. This would allow to implement more options (transcoding, naming scheme).
