file type as option in displayed library info?
would it be possible to include an option displaying file type (i.e. MP3, Ogg, FLAC, etc.) to the library info options (i.e. Title, Time, Artist, etc.)? this would allow users to know what library files could be transferred to their portable devices and organize their libraries based on file type...

Inappropriate?I can see that, sure!
I was unable to find a similar request logged in Bugzilla yet. If you'd like to see it, get some folks to rally behind you, and we'll add it to our to do list; or feel free to log it here to tell the developers what you want directly. Oh the power!

Inappropriate?I've been looking for this, too. Only unprotected files can sync to my non-iPod MP3 player, and without this "what kind of file is this" info, it's very tough to know what I can and can't add to my device.
Worse(?), if I try to add a protected file to my player, I get an error - seems reasonable - but subsequent attempts to add DRM-free files to the library also fail... so I essentially have to shutdown/restart songbird.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?the idea of different file types could also be implemented in the tree-like menu on the left side of Songbird:
- music >> files; playlists
- videos >> files; playlists...
and so on
Thanks!

Inappropriate? You already can implement your idea in a Smart Playlist, by using a search criteria such as:
"File Location" "contains" ".mp3"

this is one of the best points

Hey, that's pretty smart. That would be an excellent way for cringthis & others in a similar predicament to fill their mp3 players, select songs from such a Smart Playlist. Still would be nice to see the column with this info someday soon :) -
Inappropriate?Seems like the best, simplest way to show "type" is just to display the file extension, yes?
So there should be a column for file extension: .mp3, .m4a, .m4p, wav, flac, .ogg, etc...
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate?Just installed Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146 (20090616030043). Still not possible :(
I’m sad

What's not? Did you see Klint's reply above? Other than that pre-existing feature nothing in this strand was planned for 1.2. -
Inappropriate? This doesn't work for me because a lot of my files have .flac.mp3 on the end so I can't sort for only FLAC files. A simple column for "type" would be extremely useful. I am very glad that songbird supports FLAC I just need a way of separating them. Thanks
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I too would greatly welcome having a type column implemented. Is anyone working on this?
