Floating point exception
Whenever i try to run Songbird on Debian 64 bit i get a 'floating point exception'. That's all. No other information is given.
I have tried 0.6.1 and also the new 0.7 beta. Both do the same thing. I downloaded the x86_64 version. I have done all the Gstreamer prerequisites.

Inappropriate?Did you use the instructions for Debian form:
https://wiki.songbirdnest.com/index.p...
What exactly do you do to get an exception?
At what point you get it?
Can you paste the exception message and any related output from Error Console or Songbird dialogs(if there are any)? -
Inappropriate?Yes, i installed all of the required and recommended packages.
I download the tar.gz and unzip it into my Downloads directory. Then i do
cd /path/to/Songbird
./songbird
and it says:
Floating point exception
I don't see a log anywhere. There are no Songbird dialogs because Songbird doesn't even begin. It's literally immediately that i try to start running it.
Maybe i need to compile it? I didn't have to last time i installed it (but that was on 32 bit).
I’m bemused

Inappropriate?Hi. With the 0.7 beta, can you try this?
SB_GST_BUNDLED=true ./songbird
That will use the bundled gstreamer, rather than your system one, which may avoid some problems. Let us know if that works. -
Inappropriate?I tried it and it just did the same thing. Floating point exception.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem with Songbird. From what I can see the exception is thrown right after the small startup binary loaded all its libraries (libpthread, libdl, libstdc++, libm, libgcc_s, libc). After the libc.so.6 file has been closed strace shows two more calls to mmap before the exception occurs. So no gstreamer involved up to that point.
I found the problem to persist regardless of Songbird version. I tried the beta but also some nightly builds including the latest from 2008/08/24.
The system is a straight Debian x86_64 stable, the mentioned libraries the latest versions in stable. If there is any more diagnostics I can contribute please just tell me. -
Inappropriate?BTW: What's wrong with this Website? I can't write comments using the Iceweasel (Firefox). No cursor, nothing appears in the edit box when I start typing. I managed to write these two comments using the bloody Konqueror but even with that one I'm struggling to get it done.
I’m frustrated

This fixes the problem with Get Satisfaction, not the originally-reported problem. Just wanted to clarify. Carry on... -
Inappropriate? That's interesting that someone else has the same problem with 64bit Debian.
I'm thinking of going back to 32bit when i upgrade to Lenny. The 64bit has given me quite a lot of trouble, if i'm honest.
I’m yah whatever
-
Inappropriate?Well, this problem is solved, for me at least. I upgraded to Debian Lenny today and made sure i got the 32 bit version. I now have Songbird running! :) Wow, i've missed it!
I’m delighted
