Grouping various artists albums / compilations
Hi,
I have many compilations with many different artists that totally clutter the "artist" list. Is there a way group them together under a "Various Artists" element, like in amarok or iTunes? I would like only those artists to appear in the artist list, from which I own complete albums.
Pete

Hey Danny,
The short answer is no. Bummer, I know.
The long answer for the future is, check out the bug listed for updates. You can even subscribe to track the comments on this bug, then you'll always know the status.
The HOW TO, copied from above:
1. Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug # 5755;
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box;
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team.
Another great resource for what we are doing and when we're doing it is our Releases page on the wiki. currently we are working on Hendrix.

Inappropriate?Use this add-on http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
It adds Album Artist to the filters. All you need to do is right-click the middle columns and change the filter from Artist to Album Artist.

This worked great for me! -
Inappropriate?I would really prefer an implemented feature that acts exactly like in iTunes.
This is the only reason why I still haven't completely switched to SongBird.
I’m waiting confident

Inappropriate?This would be great. Is there any news on this? Is it a planned feature for the next release?

Inappropriate?If you load about:config in a tab you can look for songbird.library.filterset.
then replace
http://songbirdnest.com/data/1.0#arti...
with
http://songbirdnest.com/data/1.0#albu...
I personally use
http://songbirdnest.com/data/1.0#albu...;http://songbirdnest.com/data/1.0#albumName;http://songbirdnest.com/data/1.0#arti...
because if the album artist tag is not done properly the album won't show up under the album artist section.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?you can sort the artist pane of the filter pane view by Album Artist instead of Artist. Provided that you have a well-tagged mp3 wich report "Various Artists" in the Album Artist metadata field.
I can do this with SongBird (from version 1.2 i think) without the help of any plugin.
For tagging your music in a cool and fast way i will suggest MusicBrainz ;)
