How about a lean and mean Songbird, that is less demanding of CPU and RAM?
It would be nice to be able to subtract features for less clutter and less memory/cpu overhead. Maybe a Songbird Slim version? A lean and mean itunes replacement perhaps?

Inappropriate? The Songbird team is very hard at work on making performance improvements every release, they only put in features that they consider necessary, in huge demand, or is a common feature in most other media players. (Hence what add-ons are for) Just give them time and your patience and it will soon be the media player to beat!

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?Yeah I totally agree with "boosh"!!! @carsamba your better off using foobar2k with you want performance
-
Inappropriate?I already use foobar2000 for playback and love it, it is a very good and slim player. But itunes replacement it ain't..
Having said that: I totally appreciate the Songbird Team's efforts and looking forward to new releases (and getting rid of itunes, laggard extraordinaire on my quad-core 8gig machine).
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate?Fair enough, I to I'm using foobar2k, but after messing around with Songbird and iTunes for a while now I'm starting to dislike foobar2k because of it's overcomplicated setup

Inappropriate?Check out the conversation going on over here...
Prettymuch the same. I've thrown some mockups together, even!
I’m hoping these threads can be merged.
-
Inappropriate?Just like Michael said, Songbird performance ultimately depends on the developer efforts and future releases.
Your best bet at the moment, while waiting for those optimizations to come in, is to have only the minimum necessary of Add-ons installed. The more you have, the slower it is. -
Inappropriate?I think that solutions like get less RAM when it's minimized or on tray (add-on) should be on the top to fix.
