Glad you asked. :) Songbird (our company name is POTI, Inc.) makes a desktop media player called the Songbird Player. Qtrax licensed the Songbird Player, added the Qtrax brand, changed the look, and then integrated the Qtrax advertising supported music download service. If you speak geek, Songbird is a software platform providing open API's to allow seamless integration of devices and services into a desktop media player using markup, Javascript, CSS and other Web developer tools.
Songbird doesn't own or operate the Qtrax music service, and we're sorry to report that we can't fix your problems. If you have issues with the Qtrax service or the Qtrax player, you'll need to chat with Qtrax.

Hi Jim,
One more question regarding Qtrax: did they pay Songbird any fee in order to license the Songbird Player?
Thanks in advance! -
Inappropriate?Just wondering why Oll didn't receive a reply to his legitimate question.

I’m confused

Inappropriate?Perhaps the question needs to be asked a different way.
Can Songbird be cloned free of charge? It is, after all, open source.
- AAA
I’m disappointed POTI isn't paying us no mind.

Inappropriate?G'day, it was possibly just missed.
But yeah, Songbird can certainly be cloned free of charge (people recompile it all the time). It also has means to let you easily rebrand it too. Some things are closed source though (such as the addons website, however, non-paying partners could probably easily develop their own).
Not really sure about the exact benefits paying partners receive, however, its probably stuff such as Mp3 encoding in 1.4 (as Mp3 encoding requires licensing, which is why it isn't included in the free copy, as it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars), support from the songbird team, and maybe stuff such as their own addons system (without having to develop their own). Not really sure though (never asked).
No idea if Qtrax paid or not to be a partner though, but its probably better to ask Qtrax (they might not want it public whether they are paid or not).
Btw, I'm community too, so this isn't an official response ;)
