Inappropriate? We don't currently support the multimedia keys on your keyboard. I've filed a feature suggestion for you and added your comment there.
You can track the comments on this work item by:

Inappropriate?I'd be interested in this as well. If there were Automator actions for Songbird on Mac I could make do...

Inappropriate?yeah this seems like a relatively straightforward and obvious feature.

Inappropriate?Hi all,
I have created an addon that should enable playback with the Apple media keys:
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addons...
This isn't as straight-forward as it sounds for a couple or reasons:
1.) Apple doesn't make this easy (no API for listening to these events)
2.) The workaround for retrieving apple events doesn't map to the Mozilla / Cocoa run loops.
Give it a try and let me know - it seems to work for my thin Apple keyboard and mac book.

Nick,
If I may ask, how did you prevent iTunes from picking up the key presses? I've been using Songbird for a bit (since the intro of watch folders into the nightlies) and installed this addon which works great....except for the fact that every time I press a key, iTunes launches. -
I found a solution to this on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.j...
Basically it is a python wrapper script that replaces /Applications/itunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes and scans for other applications. If one of them is running (with your user id), the script logs an error and exits. If it is not, it launches the real iTunes (renamed to iTunesX).
Edit: The script listed har some bugs, to get it running fix as mentioned in a followup post, and make sure the indentation is correct. Try running it from the terminal. Also remember to set ownership/permissions. -
Inappropriate? If you can map media keys to commands then you could use the command line support plugin
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
This works really well for media keys on the Logitech Dinovo Edge on Linux, if your software on Windows/Mac allows custom key commands then it should work fire on those platforms too?
I’m confident

On Mac OS X Nick Kreeger's addon works perfectly (with the A1243 keyboard). When you combine that with the python wrapper iTunes stays away, and there is no need for any more addons to solve this problem.
