How do I get Songbird to use my existing Firefox plugins?
I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu 8.0.4 with x64_86 versions of firefox 3.0.3 and I just installed Songbird 0.7.0.
How do I get Songbird to see/use the plugins listed below which are already installed and are being used by Firefox?
Shockwave Flash
Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.22.1
VLC Multimedia Plugin
Helix DNA Plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible (compatible; Totem)
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.22.1)
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX® Web Player
QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0
GCJ Web Browser Plugin (using IcedTea) 1.0

Inappropriate? So if I'm understanding your issue correctly this should happen automatically with all versions 0.3 and higher. Does this bug explain what you're referring to or am I misunderstanding?
I’m unsure...

Inappropriate?Sorry about reviving an old thread...
Using the instructions here, I've created a link to the Mozilla plugins folder within the Songbird plugins folder (I've checked the Firefox plugins folder and that's not the main location. Opera confirms this). So theoretically, it should work now.
It doesn't. Firefox, Opera, and Songbird are all 64-bit anIt doesn't. Firefox, Opera, and Songbird are all 64-bit and running on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 (64-bit). I'm on Songbird 1.1 right now. If I type about:plugins in the address bar, the plugins info shows up just fine in Firefox but nothing shows up in Songbird.
As far as I can tell, I'm having the same issue and it's not related to that bug. There's some kind of compatibility issue and I have no idea where it's coming from. I'll check the bug listings and see what I can do about filing something (either a response or a new bug) there.
Other than that, the thing that bugs me is that I'm attempting to use the Totem plugin at all. Songbird is supposed to a media player which handles both audio and video. Doesn't using a plugin for another media player defeat that purpose? I understand needing flash and java plugins, but not a media plugin.
I know that I suggested a media plugin as a short-term temporary solution in this thread. I'm not fully contradicting myself here.
I'm still not sure what the plans are concerning windows media file compatibility on all platforms, but I'd like to know and am checking every few weeks on that.
It'd be really cool if Songbird itself could handle media on web pages opened within the player without the use of external media plugins. That would make the player a lot more full-fledged.
Meanwhile, I'd also like a fix on the browser plugin compatibility issue. Especially for Flash, because some radio station live players embed the audio stream in a flash player.
There's also something else that I've noticed which could be related to this. When I click the message:
- nothing happens. I'm not sure why.

Inappropriate?Went back and fixed the problem. Apparently I made a syntax error when linking the folders. I forgot to append the source link with a * so I ended up with an extra layer of directories. Everything works now.
Well, except for the fact that I still can't download plugins through Songbird and that I have to create links between the Songbird and Firefox directory folders in order to gain functionality.
And the whole "plugin for secondary media player necessary" issue.
