how do i sync my ipod with songbird while using ubuntu??

I've added the itunes add-on, but songbird doesn't show a "sync" option. Isn't there a usage guide for these add-ons. It is not enough to say there is an add-on, there should be a explanation of how to do use the add-on.

As soon, as you plug your IPod into your PC, it should show up on the left side of Songbird. When you click on that new symbol, you can manage, how Songbird should sync to your IPod.

the original poster's question points to a bigger problem: the add-on does not work (not at all for me) with some linux installations and certain ipods.

I have songbird 1.2 on ubuntu jaunty, ipod support add-on installed and my ipod is not recognized in songbird. it does work in other media players.

I've seen this problem reported in Bugzilla as well. here:

It would be nice to know that a songbird rep acknowledges that this is a known issue and they're working on it or offer some fix.

Hi there. As a recent convert to Ubuntu (9.04) I'm really trying hard to get to grips with the differences between this os and XP. So far I love it. I've installed Songbird 1.2.0 using Synaptic Package Manager, but cannot find an addon that will sync my IPOD. As there appear to be others in the same situation, I was wondering if any solution has been found. Hope so, 'cause of all the media players I have looked at for Ubuntu, I really would like to use SONgbird.....if I can manage all my music with it, and sync my IPOD (5th Gen 180 GB)

I appear to have the same prob. I am using Ubuntu 9.10, and the latest 1.2 version of Songbird. Songbird itself works great, but when I plug in my 5g 30gig iPod Songbird doesn't see it. It found it once but after shutting down Songbird and doing a reset of the unit, nothing. Ubuntu mounts the unit to the desktop and I can poke through the directories.

So I am not sure what is confused, other than me!

I gave up. uninstalled songbird. so long.
