Inappropriate? We've temporarily de-prioritized work on the USB mass storage device. Once we have the cycles, we'll be either updating our USB mass storage add-on or rolling that code into the core. Until then, you can find the track on your hard drive by using the location column (available in the column picker, upper right of the library playlist) and copying the tracks outside of Songbird.

with all due respect .. that's not a work around. n -
Inappropriate?I love this software but output to CD/USB is badly needed. Unfortunately without something simple like this it makes it somewhat paralyzed. (I'd like to see visualisations, but that's not a need to have, this is!)

Inappropriate?I'm using Windows at the moment to keep the kid's playlist on their devices. We really need USB support.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Agreed, i really like songbird and the fact that i can have a file based mp3 share. It is a shame a simple copy from my file share (based on say playlists) and a drag and drop from the library that will copy the songs to the location i choose is missing. It would make the software immensely more useful.
I’m chaved

Inappropriate? There are a whole bunch of people getting the new Android phone which uses this method for sync. I really want to use SongBird as an a replacement for iTunes.
I’m frustrated...

Inappropriate?I am also wishing I could use Songbird (on Vista) to manage music on my T-Mobile G1 (android) phone. Please prioritize this once 1.0 is finished.

Inappropriate?I'm sorry, but skipping support for general Mass Storage Devices should be a showstopper for a "final" release. Basically every device that can play/store MP3's I've used (a couple of phones of varied brands, PSP, external harddrives, small MP3 players, carPC's and even a Nintendo DS), except my old iPod, have support for manually uploading songs through MSD/USD interface. A _few_ of them also supports MTP. I think the focus for the device support went the wrong way here.
I’m frustrated

true that!! i have 3 devices that use usb mass storage and no way to use them in songbird -
Sadly, I gave up on Sunbird when I had to interact with one of their 'staff' on this forum. The lack of USB support was nothing compared to what I encountered. It's a shame really, I think this project had great potential. -
Sunbird? I assume you mean Songbird, the music player, and not Sunbird, the calendar application. -
Inappropriate?I must echo the other statements in this thread. I also have a G1, and I can't use Songbird with it. It's both en/discouraging to see that there USED to be a mass storage add-on but that support was dropped. It's also discouraging to hear directly from a Songbird person that they've deprioritized this feature.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Songbird looks like a pretty cool iTunes replacement, but lack of G1 support is a showstopper for me as well.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I think USB Mass Storage Device is a very important feature. Songbird can support most of Apples overpriced products, but no one of my devices. My external HD, USB-Sticks, MP3-Player, Phone haven't got MTP, all of them use MSD. I guess most of the devices around there don't support MTP, but MSD.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Definitely needed. I'm jumping ship until this feature is included. I wish I could help, but I know nothing about coding.
-
Inappropriate? How the heck could you ever release software without basic usb support. I mean ipods only make up about 40% of the freaking market worldwide and almost the rest of them are generic USB.
-
Inappropriate?I was looking forward to using Songbird to manage my music on my new Cowon D2 MP3 player. (Korean firmware, UMS/MSC only, no MTP) But the lack of good UMS/MSC support is really a killer.
I am now forced to use another player, such as Banshee, to be able to perform this task. Banshee by all means isn't a bad choice and they've done some great work on how portable devices are handled. But Songbird is my player of choice and I would've rather been able to use it instead.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I thought a good open source product like Singbird would give me the chance to synchronize my USB stick to use it in my car... I could not believe that not!?
I’m frustrated

Don't fret. The next version supports mass storage devices. If you want to download the beta, you can get this functionality right now! However, if you have Windows 7, I'd hold off. It didn't work too well for me. Even if you don't, it's a beta version, so be aware of that. -
Inappropriate?MSC mode is supported correctly in Songbird 1.3 latest build (better than on the beta), on Windows Xp and Vista. Check this: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
You may alternatively use the FolderSync addon: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/... if you don't want to install the 1.3 (which is pretty stable, except for MTP support that is broken... that is why 1.3 has not ben released and probably won"t never be, as 1.4 is on its way) or if you are on another OS.
Hope this helps
PS: I agree with the comment about Windows 7, it is not supported yet well and officially.

Inappropriate?Yeah the FolderSync is the best way to go imo. Does the job perfectly for me :)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, I should have mentioned FolderSync too. I use that for now and it works just fine. Oh, and 1.2 works just fine in Windows 7.
-
Inappropriate?G'day Jezik,
Support for MTP and MSC exists in the version which is about to be released (1.4).
In fact, POTI have taken it a step further and have added transcoding too, and even a way for hardware manufacturers to upgrade the firmware of MP3 players in Songbird (as iTunes can do with the iPod, but much more open).
