How to fetch and display directly from folder.jpg (NOT writing into metadata)
I dun want Songbird to write album art files into metadata, I hate to say it but it's a stupid idea as it would recreate all the files, especially worse for people who use lossless storage formats, do mirroring and sync across computers. IT IS JUST UNNECESSARY HARD DRIVE WEAR AND TEAR. Please, if It's Not Broken, Don't Fix It!
Version: Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146 (20090616030043)
Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Album Art: Folder.jpg in each of the albums under respective artist folders
Things I've tried:
Ran a NT batch to standardize the attributes of all album arts.
Ensured archive structure settings are correct in Songbird.
Activated the fetch local file policies in about:config.
Created a test copy of album, it does not fetch from folder.jpg still.
Right click get album art, the file is retouched. (I dun want this)
@developers: Dun mean to be rude but I have to stress this:
IT IS JUST UNNECESSARY HARD DRIVE WEAR AND TEAR. Please, if It's Not Broken, Don't Fix It! (I remember the album art fetching worked fine in the initial release.)

Inappropriate? But in the principle, Songbird needs to IMPORT the artwork in its database once per file before it can display it in the library. In the library, it does not use directly your jpg file, but a copy of the image in the library database.
This import is done by using the "Get Album Artwork" in the right click menu. It can import from Amazon, from Last fm... or from the local JPG files.
But you need to do this explicit import for the moment (yet I hope that in the future, Songbird will import artwork when the file is added to the library, automatically).
By the way, you can recheck all settings by using this very convenient extension: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
You will see that there is a setting that allows NOT to write the artwork in the file itself, and let it in the database only.
Hope this helps.

Inappropriate? Thanks man, it worked after restarting it twice. That saves some 100gb LAN traffic between my deskie n raid1 file server
Everything is fine now except that it trims the date property in Meta (currently amazon.co.jp format yyyy/mm/dd, Songbird trims and retrieves year only.) and apparently does not parse the native album artist property correctly making Mediaflow splits the albums, I tried to manually update it in SB, it added a commentary value <albumartist>
</albumartist>
I’m thankful
