Huge CPU consumption on close with Songbird 1.1
I'm using latest stable version of Songbird (1.1). It opens far more quickly than previous versions. Yeah! But when I close it, it consumes HUGE amounts of CPU (up to 70% on both core processors) and makes my system pretty unresponsive (jerky mouse, etc.) for about 3-4 minutes. Then all is well. BTW, this did not happen on nightly builds for v.1.2 (e.g Songbird_1.2.0a-1015). I am running Vista Ultimate SP1. Firewall and AV is Comodo (configured with Songbird trusted). No viruses, etc.
Help? Please?

Inappropriate?What addons are installed?
Could you have a look in songbirds error console, found under "Tools" and see, if anything comes up in there? -
Inappropriate?I checked the console and the only thing that appears is this:
No chrome package registered for chrome://browser/skin/pref/pref.css
When I start up Songbird (prefetch or not) it drives CPU to 70% for a brief few seconds (that's fine) and then runs seemingly fine until I shut down the app. Then it cycles up to 78% - 100% CPU and freezes my mouse for up to five minutes and then closes and everything goes back to normal... I have the base add-ons that come with the installation minus MashTape and Last.fm. I had this problem with only those add-ons. I have since added a few more but the problem has persisted. Not any better or worse.
I’m happy someone contacted me but still puzzled...

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. I'm running Songbird 1.1.2, Build 1042 on vista 32 sp1. Songbird works fine, but when I close it it takes up 100% of one of my cpu cores (e6600 with 3 gigs of ram). I have to go to the task manager and kill the songbird.exe process every time after I close songbird. I've tried waiting up to 10 minutes for it to stop but it never does. I disabled every addon I have installed, but it persists.
Btw, this is with a fresh install of vista and a brand new install of songbird. I wasn't using songbird before, so it shouldn't be caused by anything in my songbird profile folder because it's all brand new. I just installed it (vista AND songbird) in the past 2-3 days. -
Yep. Same here. Mine doesn't seem to go as long as 10 minutes, but it does take a few minutes before it clears from the Process Explorer Must-Kill List!!! I end up just going directly to Process Explorer to kill it every time I close Songbird. Minor inconvenience, really, but something that's GOT to be fixed eventually. I have same config. Clean install of Vista with clean install of Songbird. Glad to know I'm not the only sufferer! Sorry, exactopposite. Know it's no consolation. -

Inappropriate?Could you report you problems to this bug here?

Inappropriate?that bug doesn't seem to apply to the problem I am experiencing. this is only when i close the program. I don't have to do anything in particular in songbird while it's open to make this happen when I close it. On my machine, even if I don't do anything at all within the program after I open it, when i close it it takes up 100% of one of my cpu cores for an undetermined amount of time.
I tried closing songbird and leaving the computer for about 20 minutes, and when I came back the process was gone. So it does eventually cease, but I'm not sure how long it takes. -
Agreed. I'll gladly submit a new bug report but the one outlined above does not seem to be related. I'm in the same boat as exactopposite.
