I can't see any song metadata on my Linux machine!
I just imported my entire music library into Songbird on my Linux machine, but it isn't displaying any metadata for any of my songs!

No worries! We heard about this problem from a few of you, and we've tracked it down to a minor problem with a very simple solution. Note that this solution will only work for those of you on Linux...
You'll need to open up a shell (such as a Terminal window), move to the Songbird directory using the "cd" command, then run the following command:
chmod a+x libtag.so.1sb
This will give your system permission to execute the tag-reading library. This is only a problem on a small subset of Linux machines -- most are reading the files just fine without this change!
I’m filled with metadata!

Inappropriate?this doesn't seem to work for me - my system says "cannot access libtag.so.1sb no such file or directory"
-
same here! there is no such file to be modified in any of the songbird sub directories. Now What? -
Inappropriate?Same here. chmod a+x libtag.so.1sb did not work for me. I hope to hear something soon...
-
Inappropriate?It's in the xulrunner directory.
cd .../Songbird/xulrunner
chmod a+x libtag.so.1sb
ought to do it. Then, reload your library into Songbird, and this time it should load the metadata as well.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that did not fix the issue. The metadata only shows up when the song is played, making it difficult to sort music by anything other than title of the file. BTW I have 100gigs of music. Thank you for any support on this issue. -
Inappropriate?That worked for me! I did delete the entire Songbird profile to rebuild the entire library. Thanks!
cd .../Songbird/xulrunner
chmod a+x libtag.so.1sb
-
Inappropriate?I did a rebuild of my library after a fresh install of Ubuntu and its the same old all over again. Now chmod a+x libtag.so.1sb did not do the trick.

Inappropriate?I followed this instruction with a bit more luck:
http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-...
The installation instructions are very straightforward but I think the most essential part in this instruction is to install the following:
Quote howtoforge:
2 Gstreamer
Songbird uses gstreamer to play media - so we have to install a few additional packages.
* gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
* gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
* libgstreamer0.10-dev
* libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev
You can find these using the package manager.
Hope this helps. I still have some songs with empty tags but only a dozen on 23000. Selecting and playing them helps.

Inappropriate?You have to make sure you delete all of the files from your library first.
Then, add them all back in and the problem should be fixed. (At least if was for me)
I’m glad the metadata is back.
