Iconize it!
I guess that an icon in the notification area (Linux) or the clock zone (in Windows), should be a good idea, just like Amarok o Listen Media Player do. I love that icon of Amarok, where I can see which song is playing, stop, go next one, see some information of the album of the song, etc.

But those add-ons are not compatible whit the Linux Songbird version, at least. I hope it is a matter of time. -
I know it's not a great solution JAPG (I too would like functionality like Amarok eg.) but kDocker will allow you to dock Songbird to the System Tray. It won't give you any control over Songbird from there but at least it's out of the way and accessible from every desktop.

Inappropriate?I too find the Amarok tray icon very intuitive. Being able to control basic player functionality from the notification area, and, importantly, from every desktop, could only be an asset for Songbird.
