Ideas on Album View and Media Flow
Firstly; respect to the people making Songbird. I am going from a Creative player to an iPod, and iTunes almost made me lose it completely. Then, I found Songbird, and it's all good.
I have three ideas that would make Album View and Media Flow work more like they should. I know that these are add-ons, but they should be permanent features.
Idea 1) Make album covers right-clickable. The pop-up menu should have options like: Fetch album art, add to play list, sync to device, and other links to the cool stuff that makes Songbird stand out.
Idea 2) Make album covers double-clickable. This is a must for people used to Windows Media Player. Double click should bring up the list view of tracks on the album and start the album, first song first.
Idea 3) Make fetching of Album Art a default feature. This is really not related only to Album View and Media Flow, but it is most in my face when I use these two views. If you google for "album art in iTunes" or something similar, you will see that there are thousands of people who are going mad because Apple forces you to add an account with a credit card number to get album art. In Windows Media Player (even!) this is a free and included feature. And so it should be in Songbird! First thing that pops up after installing, is a dialog box asking if the user wants to fetch or update album art. It will most likely boost downloads of Songbird a good deal once this feature is in there and given some PR. What's more, it will make iTunes look even more stupid.

Inappropriate?I don't think that Media Flow should be a permanent feature of Songbird.
This is only a stylish thing that no one really needs to play media.
moreover in its actual shape, it runs too slow and it doesn't look as good as the iTunes cover flow. -

I have to agree that the visuals and speed of Media Flow is not as nice or fast as iTunes. It does help that Songbird as a whole is a bit faster than iTunes though. And in my eyes, the CoverFlow in iTunes is not that sexy or practical either. There is no interaction to speak of, except an awkward scrolling feature, and it seems to slow down iTunes even more when you run it. -

it should not be a permanent feature. media views (album view and media flow) should definitely an add-on! because this way everybody can select the style of display he likes, it also allows for competition between different add-ons. If things like this would be included into the main program, Songbird would be to bulk, especially considering resource intentsive media views.
to 1-2.
yeah right-clicking should be added to the add-ons. I would love to enqueue albums and songs in every view to the "now playing list. also with the double click I agree.
Nevertheless. these two things you should post in the add-ons discussion, so that the developers of Media Flow and Album View hear about it and tell you what they think. Here the at getsatisfaction they might not hear about it.
I think the right click request if even already there.
to 3. Album Art fetching is going to be included (which i think is wrong ). Iwould prefer it to stay an add-on. I have all my mp3s infille tagged with album art. And I would hate this being destroyed by any media-player,But this is just my five cents, -

I just found out that the Album Art fetchin is included in the nightly. I tested it ten minutes ago, and it does fill in some blank covers. However, since the Media Flow and Album View add-ins are not compatible with the pre-release of this, it does not really make it swing that much more. -
Inappropriate?I hear your request and have actually been working on improving the Album View :). I should have it ready and compatible with the 1.1 very shortly :)

Great, man! I am really looking forward to that. Right now I have tested Songbird to its limits during the day, and ended up uninstalling it after it failed to import the library. Hoping it will run tomorrow. Also tested iTunes with account to see how much album art I could get there. And it was not very impressive. It's not the main music library I am testing on, but it ended up missing out on almost 200 covers. I guess the best strategy to get most hits on album art is to double up on the sources and make a search method that turns up with more than you want rather than less.
