Identifying and Removing Duplicates

When I imported a music folder into Songbird it said "identifying and removing duplicates" I didn't ask it to do that. Shouldn't that be up to the user to decide? I TRULY hope it didnt actually remove the files. It only removed them from the actual Songbird playlist and not my HDD right? Otherwise that would be like rape.
