Importing metadata-album titles, etc.

I'm having trouble importing metadata into Songbird. When I rip a disk as an AIFF file using iTunes, the information is seen in iTunes, but not Songbird. The files are named for the track names, but there is no artist or album information. If I rip using Apple lossless the metadata transfers just fine. I can see album names etc. Also, I can't figure out how to get any metadata when ripping using Max.
