Inconsistent Metadata. Will Iencounter future problems?
Because I need to rip the CDs through Windows Media Player, it lists all tracks as "Track 1" etc. When I edit the info in Songbird it says: "Unable to rename source, source and file are now inconsistent"
There are no problems NOW, but will this cause problems in the future? Like if I update Songbird would the inconsistencies cause problems?
Also when will Songbird add the option to rip CDs itself?

Inappropriate? Not sure about the tracks ripped by WMP. Good news is that the CD rip feature will be available in the upcoming 1.4.0 release. You can grab the latest 1.4.0b3 to have a try. Detail can be found in Laura's blog: http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2009/10/....

Inappropriate?Hello,
1.4 beta 3 is screaming at you to try it out ;-)
Get it from here:
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Develope...
(It's pretty stable so don't be afraid to try it out)
It includes CD Ripping support and improved metadata writing support so you shouldn't be getting those errors anymore..
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Well I found the answer to my question. Basically Songbird will not allow you to change Track names while inside Songbird. Why? I do not know (iTunes dos it no problem) Songbird gets confused and thinks that by changing a track's name, that you changed the track completely.
I basically spent a few hours adding Artist info, albums, etc. all for naught. None of the music worked, all the source files were fine (work) and were not altered in anyway.
Looks like I'm gonna shelve Songbird. They still need to make some vast improvements. Guess it's back to iTunes.

Inappropriate? To rip CD with Songbird 1.4.0, it's not necessary to edit the metadata information manually. The gracenote addon which is in the first run bundle will retrieve the info from the gracenote database directly.
But I guess this still doesn't answer your question about why you can't change the trackname with Songbird, while I can change all the metadata and save back. -
Inappropriate? But I also have old burned CDs that don't have all the song data. Instead they're uploaded as "track 01" etc.
I would try out the beta, but I'm a little too put off by Songbird atm. Maybe a few updates from now I will give it another go. -
Inappropriate? With the beta 3 installed as explained, and the CD Rip add on activated, just insert your good old CD and navigate to the CDRip panel.
The tracks will be listed as Track01, etc... but you can edit them BEFORE ripping, and the new names will be used as metadata for the ripped files.
It does work fine for many of us, so I'm confident.
Hope this helps
I’m confident, as already said!
