INSANE processor and memory usage in Vista
I have Vista Ultimate 64 on a Core 2 Quad with 5 GB RAM. When I start songbird, it uses 90MB or so of RAM, which is a bit more than an MP3 player should, but not too bad. However, within 15 minutes of use playing local MP3s, its up to 400MB of RAM and 25% of processor usage (or 100% of one entire processor core). The only extension I have is the album art plug in. How can a simple MP3 player use so much RAM and processor cycles?

Inappropriate?Oh no - that does sound like a lot. We're working on reducing the memory footprint of Songbird at the moment. The next couple of releases should speed things up and reduce the memory requirements.
The company says
this solves the problem

Inappropriate? On my poor 3 year old laptop with 512 Mbytes of RAM, running Windows XP, it uses between 300 and 160 Mbytes. (About 7000 tunes in the library) After minimizing the application I imagine it does a garbage collection, and goes down to 20 Mbytes, but it starts climbing fast directly after that.
Looking forward to the next version.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Reading all above comments there is actually very less to add. Given its 'In Player Browsing Experience' it's obvious to have large memory footprint. But 25% of RAM and 99% processor usage?? (Mine is Core 2 Duo with 1 GB RAM). Company should remember that it's basically a PLAYER given a browser within and NOT a BROWSER attached with player.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Jozer99 here, (if you look waaaaay up at the top, I started this thread). I tried out version 1.0, and I am happy to report I am at last relatively satisfied with the RAM usage. Its still a bit high (165MB), but at least it remains stable enough to use for a couple of hours. Of course, there are still plenty of other bugs out there.
Chad, please remember that Songbird is in fact a browser with an MP3 player attached; Firefox. Demanding that it switch to the other way around seems a bit unrealistic. -
Inappropriate? The consume of memory is huge, but the processor... :S:S:S:S
You should improve this quickly so the player could get to others and start with the right foot.
I’m sad this happen, hope it gets better on this

Inappropriate?yeah, it's quite unreal that songbird uses this much ram. 190 megs here. Mediamonkey with lots of script addons and album art showing only weighs in at 71 megs. i have about a 9000 song library.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?282 megs of ram right now with 41k items. Ive seen it up to 400-500MB range before however. Could have alot to do with Mediaflow, Mashtape, and Music reccomendations....

Inappropriate?my songbird takes at least 4kb of my memory per second!
after a couple of hours most of my RAM is used by songbird...
I’m disappointed
