Install Songbird in Ubuntu 9.04
Hi
This new programme looks great! I think it really will be the Firefox of music players.
Problem is that it won't install properly on my Ubuntu 9.04 laptop. I have tried both the tar.gz file and the Deb file from "getdeb". Issue is the same, the programme looks like it is running, I just can't see it. When I click on the programme to start it it is like nothing has happened, but when I click it again, I get an error that the programme is running already.
I read on getdeb that I may have to unbinstall some nvidia add ons ("libvisual-0.4-plugins") that may be in my laptop somewhere. I do indeed have an nvidia graphics card, but I have no idea how to un install these addons. I tried "applications" "add/remove" but it was not listed there.
cheers

Inappropriate?Seems this is a common problem, see:

It works fine in Windows, shame that what looks like a great open source programme won't work in the most common open source OS. -
Inappropriate?Hi Tom, you'll need to follow these instructions firstly.
1 - Remove Songbird
2 - Make sure all the Songbird files have been deleted from your system
3 - Go to the Synaptic Package Manager & enter your password
4 - In the search field, enter libvisual-0.4-plugins
5 - Select Complete Removal & click Apply
6 - Install Songbird from the GetDeb website: http://www.getdeb.net/app/Songbird
7 - Enjoy the best audio player ever.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? It worked perfectly. As soon as I remove the mentioned plugin, Songbird installed.
