Integrated BPM counter
Can someone create an add-on for counting the BPM of songs? Most current ways of finding the BPM of a song involve opening a website and tapping keys to the song's rhythm. It would be great if this functionality could be built into Songbird itself (probably through an add-on) in a way that Songbird would automatically add the BPM to the song's metadata.
As a DJ, having the BPM of my songs is important, and it would be great to speed up this process.

Inappropriate? This is a simple addon to make into a display pane. I'll put it on my list of easy add-ons to make.

Has there been any progress on this? -
Inappropriate? When I roller skated I learned to appreciate BPM. Yes, this would be a very attractive add-on.

Inappropriate?Banshee has integrated a BPM counter into their latest Beta. From their website-
"With Banshee 1.5.0, you can autodetect the BPM of songs in your library, or you can manually set it by tapping the beat. Then, you can sort, search, or make smart playlists based on BPM.
Autodetection requires the bpmdetect GStreamer plugin, found in gst-plugins-bad"
Since Songbird also uses GStreamer, can you use the same plugin? -
Yes, we can BUT that would mean that this should be implemented in the core, which isn't really a nice thing. So we'll have to wait untill it's possible for developers to insert things into the pipeline. -
Inappropriate?More love for this idea. Love love love.

Inappropriate?i thought the original idea was just to have a manual bpm counter. i personally don't want an automatic counter, i listen to jazz mostly and they just don't work. if the add on was simple as previously suggested, id love to see it.
more love for this idea. love, love love.
I’m amused

Inappropriate?A friend of mine is working on a java auto-BPM-counter; means: automatic detection, no tapping. He should finish within 2 months (it also detects various other interesting things).
I might try to integrate that in an add-on as soon as he has finished.
I’m confident

that would be neat :) -
I think it's 8 days, not 9 months... But it's progressing, i think it could be a succes. -
Inappropriate?True Lukas, but I was thinking of the Orignal idea, not what your friends working on. I have found some good command line utils that you can feed in an MP3 and it dumps out the BPM. So I'm thinking maybe a linux script wrapped around one of those could sovle the issue, but I still looking into it.
