Just wanted to clarify/update this thread that iPod Album Art Support is not underway. We have opted to open source the iPod Device Support add-on thus we do not plan to direct any more development hours to it.
I’m sorry for the dissapointing news.

Inappropriate? The iPod add-on doesn't currently support photos or album art. It's something on our list for a future release of the add-on.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I figured. After I posted the question (I searched before I posted), I saw others had posted similar questions but worded in a different way and the answer for those questions.
Thanks again for the reply. Keep up the excellent work! -
Inappropriate?Album art is a key feature and I am glad to see that this is a work in progress. Most of the Linux players sort of support showing album art, but not adding it to the mp3-file (or other files)
Keep up the good work. Songbird is becoming more and more awesome!
I’m positive

Inappropriate? Please implement this feature! This is a must have!
-
Inappropriate?Yes..this is a must have!! I am looking forward to making Songbird my default music player and iPod sync program on Ubuntu. I finally got the sound working now I just need to get it to recognize my iPod. I will try all the tricks I found here, hopefully one works. Please don't respond to this comment as I don't want to hi-jack this thread, if I have issue I will post a new thread.

Inappropriate?Man this is a real roadblock to move to Songbird. Which I think is great. But I cannot use 2 players to sync and listen to music.
Any idea as to when this one is going to be fixed?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I feel sad that i can't take advantage of the album art feature displaying on my new shiny nano. That's the one feature i don't want to live without.
Hope this one gets fixed soon!
I’m sad and waiting.

Inappropriate?Agreed. Does anybody know of a music player for linux that does support transferring album art to ipods? I have yet to find one.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?@Mimzy: Yeah, check out Floola. It's a really good iPod manager that works on Linux. It's a nightmare on 64bit, though......
ooh, also, never plug your ipod into GTKpod. It'll corrupt all of your album art. So annoying! -
Inappropriate?@Mimzy: Banshee does album art but not playlists........
I am looking forward to the day a Linux player/manager can do both. The first one that can will likely become my player/manager of choice. -
Same question here! -
Inappropriate? It's been a good while since I've heard any news on this now, and this is one of the most important features missing from Songbird.
How far have the work on this come?
I would really love for this to be implemented! -
Inappropriate?@ladf; you have addressed your request to the wrong vendor, as Songbird is not faulty for Apple designing products that completely ignore standards (the way they manage album art is not standard at all).
So, you might have a shiny nice iPod Nano, but it's very dirty under the hood!
I’m kidding (or maybe not, after all ;)
-
Inappropriate?Just mentioning this again. It would be nice to implement this so that the album artwork will show up on my Palm Pre.
Songbird may become more of a necessary replacement for Pre Users as Apple continues to shut it down. -
Inappropriate?I have a rough patch for linux that adds album art support, and it can be extended to work on all platforms. Take a look at bugzilla if you want to follow:

can you give an example on how to implement your patch/integrate that library? -
Unfortunately I have moved on to Banshee, but I'll help as much as I can.
Firstly, here's the messy patch: http://pastebin.com/m30b868d8
Now for it to work libgpod has to be recompiled with artwork support. It's not integrated into the current build system, but you can still grab it from svn and build it. I forget the exact name of the configure flag, but it's easy to find if you've built much before. The flag is then stuffed in one of the build system files.
At this point the hard part is done. All that's left is to set the iPod type correctly. For testing I simply used gtkpod to do it, though songbird could obviously be fixed to set it correctly/expose an interface.
Mix together. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add salt to taste.
So hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try my best to help. -
Inappropriate? It's been a year since this question was asked and yet this problem is still not solved.

Inappropriate?yeah. me too. i love songbird, but it is the ONE feature i'd like implemented. after that i would consider songbird PERFECT.
I’m waiting for a long time for this
-
Inappropriate?Songbird should allow pictures to be imported into ipod videos and other ipods.

Inappropriate? How can i download pictures to my ipod using songbird? Please i know its not here but can you guys put this feature in songbird or i might not use it. Because i think this software is great, better than itunes even but it would be greater if pictures could be imported to my ipod!

Inappropriate? So sad to hear that you are allowing the open source community to implement this much needed feature. I hope you re-consider or someone in the community steps up to the plate real soon as I want to use Songbird full time but I still have issues with RSS/Podcast and managing my ipod. For now I will stick with Amorak...it works!
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Maybe I am not as smart as I used to be but I just migrated over to linux mint gloria and songbird seems to be the only player that seems to work with my ipod nano 4 gen. I tried amarok, rhythymbox, vlc, and banshee. Songbird was the only one that even synched with my ipod. So I am thankful for that, but disappointed that I can't get the album art over to my ipod.

Inappropriate? My album artwork isn't showing up in the cover flow etc. but they ARE there. Some covers show though.

Inappropriate? It would be fantastic to be able to edit (erase, add new covers) album art of tracks on an iPod. That function seems a little odd now, as no cover is even displayed on iPod tracks. I'm a cover art freak, and this is a big let-down for me!

Inappropriate?when when??!! This is the only barrier holding me back migrate completely to Songbird
I’m very frustrated
