iPod is not detected in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
Since I moved from Windows XP to Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex, 32 Bit), my iPod Classic (3rd Gen, 20 Gig) isn' detected anymore by Songbird. This applies both for the 1.0 and the 1.1.1 (Build 1018) release. I have the newest iPod Support-Addon installed but when I plug-in my iPod nothing happens. I see the iPod on my desktop and I can browse all files on it. Other Programs like gtkpod do detect my iPod. Has anyone a clue why this doesn't work?

Inappropriate?I filed a bug, and I also found a workaround. If you use the firewire-port, the iPod is detected properly.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? This is happening for me with Songbird 1.2 on Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope and a 4th Gen iPod. For some reason Firewire isn't charging the iPod but USB does, although I suspect this isn't Songbirds fault.

Inappropriate?Hi Ian,
Using my laptop, my Ipod isn't charging at all using firewire. With the buildt-in firewire port of my desktop PC it's charging though. The notebook power supply is too weak to charge the ipod over firewire (needs a 6 pin firewire port). If you have an ipod cable with both usb and firewire connector, like I have, you can simultaneously plug in USB and Firewire to charge AND sync it. All you have to do is first plug in the USB cable to an usb port and right click on your iPod icon and select eject, but you leave the ipod plugged in. Then you connect the firewire cable and you can sync and charge your ipod at the same time.
this worked for me. -
the cable should look like this: http://www.k55.ch/out/oxbaseshop/html... -
Inappropriate?Lito,
I don't have a laptop - this is with my desktop PC. The firewire was charging the iPod last week, and now its not. Its stopped working in Windows as well, so I don't think this is Jaunty or Songbirds fault - iTunes applied an iPod firmware update when I was trying to fix something else I broke, this is the more likely cause.

Have you tried charging it via USB while working with the Firewire port like I described above? -
Inappropriate? No, I don't have a dual headed dock cable - I can see that it would work though.
Strangely using the rear Firewire port the iPod charges properly, but doesn't get connected. The front port won't charge but does connect it?
I give up, I'm just going to use the front Firewire port to sync with Songbird AFTER I've topped the charge up on a USB port.
