iPod Nano 4G Won't Sync With Songbird

Pretty excited about Songbird, seems sweet. I have a brand new, just out of the box iPod Nano 8Gb, 4th Generation. It has never seen iTunes and I just installed Songbird and plugged the iPod into my USB port. After Windows goes through it's "found new device wizard", I can see my iPod in Songbird in the lefthand tab. I can even hit the Sync button and it will apparently Sync the library to my iPod. However it is over so quick I know it really isn't Syncing. Thus, when I eject and dis-connect the IPod and then try to find the music on my iPod, nothing is there.

Also, when I go to my library and Right Click on a song, and say "Add To Device", my iPod is greyed out in the choices, even though it is plugged in.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Do I somehow need to format an iPod in iTunes before using Songbird? I don't have iTunes and would like to keep it off my computer which is why I want Songbird to work so badly.

Thanks,

Surf Hawk
