Is there a way to sort by Album Artist instead of just Artist?
I currently use winamp and am looking to switch to songbird. However My currect sorting uses the album artist because one album may have many artists and doing it this way saves clutter I have found. So my question is: Is there a way to sort by Album Artist instead of just Artist?

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to filter by Album Artist. There is already a feature request filed in Bugzilla for this functionality, and I have added your comments to it. To track the comments on this work item:
1. Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug #8746;
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box;
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team.

As a big collector of the Fabric and other comp series I have 2984 artists in Songbird, and it should be 304 as in evil iTunes 8.
I’m excited and I would love to swtich to using Songbird in the new year

Try the following:
if you know how to install incompatible extensions, install that one and add the Album Artist as a filter: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
Also add the Album Artist column to the library by right clicking on the column titles -

So, Album Artist can now be used in SB. -

none of my mp3's has the albumartist-tag. is there a comfortable way to autobatch a lot of mp3's with a little bit intelligence by the tagging-tool itself? any recommendations? ...for instance "tag albumartist of all mp3's in a folder with the artist from song 1".
my problem is that i have a lot of albums with a one ore more remixes. these remixes are tagged with the remixed artist, not the artist of the album. the albumartist-tag is empty.
alternatively a real folder view would be nice (the direcotry browser addon is not very useful (badly integrated)).1 Comment Add a comment

Have you tried Mp3Tag?? There is at least the option to format tag field based on the values of other fields. I don't know if it can extract tag information out of the folder structure, but I think if any tagging tool can than it would by Mp3Tag...
