Keyboard shortcuts?

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't know that Songbird has hot keys, and it's great that they are global too; i can set the Pause/Break button to Play/Pause at any time when using any application. That's perfect!!!

These aren't accessible on Mac OS X.
This is really frustrating to use the mouse to play/pause a track, especially in a party.

Currently Global Hotkeys are implemented for Windows only.
There is a bug filed for Hotkeys on Mac.
You can track the comments on this work item by:

1. Going to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug #2303

2. Add your email in the "add cc" box

3. Scroll down and hit commit.

I can't get the hotkeys to update. I am pressing the key I want to use, and then clicking Add or Set and nothing is happening. It seems the only button that works is Remove.

Are you running on Windows?
Those are global hotkeys.
If you're trying to set a single key, it will not work.
You have to use modifiers with the single keys.
For example, Ctrl+Letter, or Alt+Arrow.

How can I make hotkeys for the browser side of songbird. Boris helped me out alot with making it control like iTunes, but is there any way I can control it like Firefox too?

You can use Alt+Left/Right Arrow to go back/forward one page

or command + Left/Right Arrow on Mac

can I change the keys from alt+left/right to backspace and shift backspace? Also, is there anyway to shift from one tab to another using keys?

You can try to assign backspace with modifiers(Shift, Alt, Ctrl), not as a single key.
Read stevel's comment ragarding your second question about switching tabs.

mh, my problem still is i want global hotkeys AND "local" ones (when the program is in front). like play/pause with the space bar. so i think wi'll gonna wait until they imply it, huh?

this doesn't work for OSX. i dont like itunes, but the global shortcuts are cool. it's frustrating to open up SB everytime i want to quickly skip a tune. grrr

@Bruinbeer: I think there is a program for OSX called iKey which allows you to set global hotkeys. I've been using it with iTunes and it worked very well but I dunno if it'll work with SB.

@jlow: i downloaded iKey (2.2.2) but it doesn't seem to work with SB. searched through the list of applicaitions but couldn't target SB.

it would be cool if this was built into the player though without having to install some other app.

@Bruinbeer: yeah, of course your right, work-arounds should only be temporarely.

WE WANT HOTKEYS

i like "Local" hotkeys,
like "x" or space-bar to play/pause

modifiers and hard to type (you have to use two hand just for a shortcut?)

@sabot4ge: You're righty right about the modifiers. But I am confident they'll implement more local hotkeys in the future (Spacebar = Play/Pause is working most of the times in 0.7.0).

I think this would be cool if there was a list i could look at to find out what the commands are you have not really said where to go to get it. imay want to print ot off to.

This could really stand to be implemented for Mac users. Space bar especially. I would love to make Songbird my standard browser, but I find it impossible to use as a browser without using the space bar to page down, and shift-space to page up. Its just the way these laptops work.

One year later and you still can't play/pause with the spacebar--come on, REALLY?! How hard can this be guys, seriously...
