Large library support
Large library support really needs improving in Songbird.
It is slow, sluggish, and often crashes when editing large amounts of meta data.

G'day,
Just an update that I think you guys will like..
Part of the problem is because Isan/1.2 runs the library and GUI in the same thread. The non technical way of thinking about it is a magical circular river.
Currently the library and interface are 2 different dams in the same river. If one dam blocks the water flowing, the water slows down on the rest of the river, and eventually it may stop flowing completely.
In Songbird Jackson 5 though (due august), there are 2 separate rivers. So if one dam blocks the river, water is still flowing through the other.
This means that the GUI will hopefully stop freezing up in Songbird 1.3 when doing things, and everything will be more smooth in general. Apparently this also includes the slowdown during searching :D They really wanted it to be a part of 1.2, however, apparently it wasn't ready at the time.
More technical information can be found at:

At least, that's the rumors (I'm not a POTI employee or a Songbird developer, so this is just stuff I have heard on the grapevine).

Inappropriate?I got more than 140 GB of mp3, and it makes songbird to crawl like a slug
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?700 GB of flac here, it crashes every other minute. Have had to go back to Foobar2000..
-
Inappropriate?Just installed songbird, because I made a test installation on an old XP-computer with a small library - but now after installing it on Vista with approx 160 GB of music, it crashes when searching the library for i.e. titles or anything else. So, in my opinion it doesn't make sense for me to use it any more... Thought, Songbird can handle more....
I’m frustrated

I have the same problem, I was hoping that they would fix it with the new version but noppe. Still hangs while searching large library -
Inappropriate?I reommend making two profiles. One for your large library (few add-ons to maintain speed), and one with add-ons, but less music. That way it won't be as slow when you're in a music mindset, but you can also have the luxury of web add-ons and such.

Another update, the threading changes probably wont be until Kanye now, as it wasn't ready in time for Jackson 5 either :(
Other performance changes have been added to Jackson 5, but nothing as major as the threading change or the change to 3.5 unfortunately.. So I guess Kanye will be the performance release I've been hoping for :D -
Inappropriate?Btw, it would be nice if a POTI employee could confirm what I have said :P

Inappropriate?Thank you very much, Andrew. Registered and added CC.
Peace. -
Inappropriate?I really want to get into Songbird, but the large library problem is my biggest obstacle. I have about 32k songs. Any effort to make a smart library in Songbird Mac OSX causes the program to freeze.
I’m sad it doesn't live up to its amazing potential
