location of iTunes playlist files?
I'd love to import my itunes playlists, and I see the option to do that in the File menu, but am I supposed to know where my itunes playlist files are? Because I don't. And some rudimentary snooping in my iTunes.resources folder sure doesn't get me far.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Inappropriate?thefunksobruva, To import xml playlists from iTunes, you'll need the iTunes Library Importer add-on. As far as I can tell it will only import tracks from iTunes, not playlists, so you'll still need to recreate your playlists. The import playlist feature in Songbird is for .m3u files. Perhaps you can comment on the iTunes Library Importer asking for playlist support.
-
Inappropriate?Actually the "iTunes Library Importer" add-on imports all the music and playlists (well the normal playlists anyhow, i.e. no smart playlists).
You need to find a file called "iTunes Music Library.xml" and select that in the add-on that will then load in your music. (That's what it is called on Windows - I suspect you are on a Mac, however the filename is likely to be the same, check your home folder for it.) -
you are right ! just Itunes, file/library/import playlist and locate iTunes Music Library.xml and you will be fine, one of the things I notice is not loading is the way you rated your song -
Inappropriate?akademy, thanks for the update. On the mac, this is found in your user folder in Music/iTunes/

Inappropriate? Thanks all. I am on Windows, so I'll look for the file now. It would be immensely helpful to have my playlists converted! Rebuilding them is a serious pain in the arse!!!
I’m excited that this might work!

Inappropriate?Hm. I just checked, and the function looks for "Playlist files." It doesn't specify exactly what kind of files (like, .xml). So, I drilled to the location (//documents and settings\[my name]\My Music\iTunes\), But no files appear in the dialog box, even though a search revealed that I do have a file in that location called:
iTunes Music Library.xml
Now what?
Thanks in advance!
I’m skeptical...

Inappropriate? You'll need the iTunes library importer add-on to import xml. The playlist import only supports m3u right now.
-
Inappropriate?I go to Tools, Add-ons, and it's there, with the "disable" and "uninstall" options available. I can go to "Options" and see a few checkboxes to choose from.
Would I then assume that it's installed? Shall I re-launch Songbird?
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, I wasn't completely clear. Once you install the add-on, go to File > Import a Library.
-
Inappropriate?OK! I chose File > Import a Playlist. I think that's why this might not be working?
I already have a library set up. Perhaps here's the rub...
I "cleaned up" all my music files (eliminated dups, deleted junk) and put them in a new, different location than my iTunes music files, hoping to start (kinda) clean, but perhaps this is something I cannot do: Start over with my music (new library), but import old playlists (existing stuff from iTunes). -
Inappropriate?I think this might still be possible. You should import your iTunes library. Then scan your new cleaned up media collection. Then use the Attack of the Clones add-on to kill the dupes, then use the Ghost Busters add-on to kill off the deleted tracks from your iTunes library. I think that should give you your playlists and your clean collection without the cruft of iTunes.
