M4P Protected files play 'silently' after update to 1.2
The title says it all, protected files (DRM infested, your choice) play silently after the update. The timer moves, but I can't hear anything. There are no errors, and I can play the files fine in iTunes (I could also play them fine before the upgrade to 1.2).
I've reset my Songbird profile, reinstalled Songbird, iTunes and Quicktime, but still nothing. The best I seem to get is maybe half a second of the song (entirely random clicking on protected files). I'm on Windows 7 x64, with iTunes 8.2.023, Quicktime 7.6.2, Songbird 1.2. Let me know if you want more information.

Inappropriate?I also have this problem. I'm a first time user and have been debating switching to Songbird from iTunes, but need my DRM files to play if I'm going to switch.
I’m confused.

Inappropriate?I've also been suffering from this issue on and off with Songbird since I started using it ~a year ago. 1.0> it got a lot better, but now, it's broken again. :( I really wish I had the cash to pay iTunes (ugh I'm so tired of forking over money to Apple) to upgrade all my music to 'Plus.' Then I can get rid of iTunes for once and for all!
Back on topic...yeah, I'm having the issue too.
I’m waiting for this to get better, and to save up money for iFail.

Inappropriate? Thanks all for the report. I filed a bug for you here: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
@Diminuendo @Tatsuyame: If you could hop in and add your OS info if it is different than Windows 7, that would be awesome as we don't test against Windows 7 yet and likely won't until it is officially supported.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? From developer Aus: Reinstalling QuickTime usually fixes the problem. It's not known what actually causes this issue.
I’m hoping we found a BINGO!

D: I turned on my computer this morning, went to play "Hotel Song" by Regina Spektor, and it plays silently again! Seems like the Quicktime fix is only temporary?
Edit: And once again, a "Repair" fixes it. This is very, very odd. -
Inappropriate?Fixed!
Running a "Repair" on QuickTime (in the Programs section of the control panel) doesn't fix the issue. However, uninstalling QuickTime completely, then grabbing the latest build from the Apple website and installing it again, works like a charm. Fortunately Apple still do stand-alone releases of QuickTime, so I didn't have to mess with iTunes at all (other than making sure I was authenticated and able to play the music).
Sure would be nice to get to the bottom of this bug, should it reappear. Reinstalling QuickTime is a fairly painless ordeal though, I'm just glad I can continue using Songbird.
Thanks for the help :)
I’m happy

Actually, I did a "Repair" and it fixed it (from the Quicktime.msi installer though, I'm not sure if that had an impact or not). Also, just a note, the .exe's Apple distributes are archives with separate .msi's. So if you ever need iTunes, you can just use the iTunes.msi, so you don't get the bonjour/update/etc that's packaged with it.
Also, @Laura:
Vista SP2. Songbird 1.2.0, latest stable Quicktime Playback extension (although I tried a nightly, which used to solve it for me, and still had silent playback.) Newest stable Quicktime&iTunes release. -
Inappropriate?"Repairs" do not fix the issue for me, and like Tatsuyame above, the issue reappears after every reboot (or two).
I really don't want to reinstall QuickTime every PC boot, any ideas why this bug happens?
I’m confused

Inappropriate? After uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime to the latest version I still have this problem. Running Windows XP SP3 .. I'll copy this comment over to the bug page.

Saw the bug comment, very helpful, thanks. -
Inappropriate?Follow up on a Bug #16948:
It might be the case when your m4p files play silently in Songbird beacuse your current machine is not authorized through iTunes to play files obtained from iTunes.
If you purchased your files using iTunes on another machine, you should
authorize your current machine using your iTunes account. Normally, if you have an iTunes installed on your machine, it would give you a prompt to authorize computer:"This computer is not authorized to play "File.m4p...". You won't get prompted, if iTunes is not installed.
