Make Downloaded Album Art Bigger
The default size for downloaded album art isn\'t big enough to fill the window that comes up when you double-click the album art pane. There are 3 solutions I\'ve come up with for this:
1 - Download them from a different source with higher-quality images
2 - Allow users with iTunes accounts to download art from the iTunes store (not sure if this would even be possible, though)
3 - Allow users to choose which source they want to use for album art downloads

Inappropriate?Hey Wes,
Have you tried out the Amazon Fetcher... It gets some pretty high quality stuff, much better than last.fm(which is the default)...
If you want to customize how Songbird gets Artwork, get the AlbumArtPreferences add-on. (This will be part of the core in the next release)

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?@Michael: Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the Amazon Fetcher add-on and I've mostly gotten good quality images from that, though I had to go into about:config, disable the Last.fm fetcher, and change the Amazon fetcher's priority to 1. Not exactly user-friendly, but it does what it's supposed to.
Just out of curiosity, why is Last.fm the default album art fetcher if it gets such low-quality images? -
Inappropriate? That's what the AlbumArtPreferences add-on is for.. to customize the priority... and avoid about:config..
And I'm probably not the best to answer that second question, since stevo was the developer of the album art stuff :-P .... but i ironically asked him the same question, you can read his answer over on the add-on site in the comments...

Inappropriate?Ah don't get me started on album art image sizes. This is one of the main reasons i switched from Windows Media Player - it constantly takes over your album art and if your not careful it will shrink your only copy of album art down to 200px (just to stretch it back up when playing in Media Centre, completely destroying the quality in the process!!)
500 to 600 pixels is a nice size.
Q: My question is how does songbird handle album art when syncing to a mp3 player? Clearly the best solution would be to strip the album art out of the tracks and add a single album cover .jpg for each album (instead of every file in the album including the same .jpg file).
"AlbumArtPreferences add-on... will be part of the core in the next release" - That's fantastic news.
I’m happy to see the community is working so well

Inappropriate?@RobJN,
Right now, if the device you have supports reading artwork from the metadata, it will display it that way.. If not, you probably fall in the realm of Bug 16819.
And besides the fact that your solution would save space(which is awesome) I personally don't think it would be very efficient in syncing. 1) The device would have to support reading artwork from a image in the folder and 2) slow down the sync process - having to modify each file to remove artwork and then generating back an album art image for that media.
