Mashtape high cpu usage Mac OS

Songbird cpu usage is high when using Mashtape addon. I get 20-30% cpu usage playing a song when mashtape is enabled and around 15% when songbird is idle. Im using a Macbook pro with Songbird 1.1.2 and Leopard 10.5.6

Disabling Mashtape solves the problem.

I’m sad, but at least disabling mashtape solves the prob.

It's true, Mashtape needs some CPU for loading its content. But you shouldn't need to disable it, you just can hide the display pane (with the little button in status-bar). Then it shouldn't use CPU anymore, and if you need something (info or videos), you just can show it again.

What you also can do is, disable all the tabs you don't need (Tools -> Options -> Mashtape -> uncheck "Show this tab" options). I don't need "Reviews" for example, but you probably save a lot more cpu if you disable things like the "Photo" or "Videos".

Here you see the CPU from my little test, with Mashtape visible, then with Mashtape hidden:

It is all from the "Photo" tab that is causing the high cpu usage.. If you disable that single tab, mashtape will no longer add to Songbird's cpu resources. The photos are downloaded and "slideshow-ed" even if the tab isn't in focus. I filed a bug on it (bug 17474) since I think the majority of users never even disable mashtape/go to the options to disable specific tabs/change from the Artist info tab. :-P

I've got a fix for this in bug 17474... just awaiting review, and it should land in Kanye. This dropped my MacBook's CPU usage down from 29% to 9%.

I’m happy to get 20% of my CPu back.
