Inappropriate?The library .db file? No. The music files? Yes.
-
Inappropriate?But it would be indeed very useful in some cases to store the .db on an external drive...
-
Inappropriate?I suppose. But it's not how the Mozilla architecture works. The .db file is part of the profile. To move it away from the profile directory is to do something the architecture just does not expect and does not support.
You could conceivably do what you are proposing, but there are no guarantees that it will work. -
Inappropriate?Woops... i meant the whole profile...
-
Inappropriate?Well, wouldn't it be nice to able to select the path of the whole profile? I think this shoudn't be much effort. I think most people store their meda on a single drive or a single directory. It would be nice to have it all together, also for backup purposes (if you don't have to navigate through documents and settings\application data... to find tha database).
In this spirit, relative path information in main@library...->media_items, if the media is on the same drive as the library would be nice, so that the whole "media package" is self-contained.
The latter is optional as can also be archived by mapping the share to the same drive letter on different machines.
Many people use more than one computer (e.g. dektop and laptop). It would be great to access the media incluting the ratings from different machines. As a matter of fact, when you browse through different forums, you see thatmany people are looking for that.
Please correct me, if I'm wrong, but I think moving the proving on another position should be that big deal.
I'm a quite experienced C++ develpoper (10 years), maybe I can help.
I’m undecided

The best approach here would be to make an addon that alters the way the profiling system in Mozilla works. It would be quite a daunting task, but if you are up to it, go for it! -
Inappropriate?I echo the need for this feature. I have my music on a network drive that I listen to from multiple computers. When I build playlists or add ratings to songs I would like those changes to update on the main database on the network drive so that it appears on the other computers.
It seems that only iTunes handles this decently which is a shame.
