Merge the FLAC + MP3 of the same song/album in library.
Often i have an Albums stored both as FLAC and MP3 (or ogg, mpc, wma). This makes a file show up in the library twice or more, which is not so neat, and it is sometimes quite hard to get just the FLAC to play at home, and the MP3 send to the external mp3 player.
I think this can be a lot easier by merging the names as one in the library and find another way to get the right filetype to play. For this the names added to the library have to be able to be linked to multiple filetypes and/or bitrates. It should even work with different filenames, which should (easily?) be possible if only the track, artist, and album are tagged exactly the same for the library to recognize and merge.
An option in preferences to make a filetype-priority-list for both 'playing' and 'transferring' could also help making it easier.

Inappropriate?Jesper,
That's an interesting idea that I couldn't find logged in Bugzilla yet. If you'd like to see it, get some folks to rally behind you, and we'll add it to our to do list; or feel free to log it here to tell the developers what you want directly.

A while ago, I proposed an idea of adding a column that shows format of the audio file. Songbird employee liked the idea but asked me to get support to be considered as a feature request. I didn't bother collecting support but if its still interesting, can be undertaken as a feature request, solves OP's issue too. -
Inappropriate?I agree that something needs to be done about this. Even just having the different copies of the album show up separately rather than intermixed would be great. Currently if I search for an artist and I have two copies of the albums they will show up together so that the album would end up playing like this: Track 1 FLAC, Track 1 MP3, Track 2 FLAC, Track 2 MP3, etc. This can be remedied by making a smart playlist of files with a bitrate > 500 and searching for the artists in there, but it would be nice to have some integrated functionality to deal with a situation of multiple file types so that it doesn't require switching to and from a FLAC (or other format) playlist when there are multiple copies of an album.

Inappropriate?I like this idea.
My problem is that I'm trying to move my collection over to .ogg (started the dull task of re-ripping my CD collection) from mp3, and would like to do so without losing track ratings and counts in Songbird (to keep my smart playlists accurate).
Does anyone know if (or how) as a temporary fix I can alter the songbird database so that the record for a particular track points to the .ogg location rather than the .mp3 location?
I’m hopeful
