metadata
Any change to the metadata is accompanied by a message informing me that songbird is unable to write to the file and thus the metadata displayed by songbird is now out of sync with metadata stored in the file. I have no idea why this is the case but I have just made a massive metadata update using the awesome metadata updater and it really sucks that the actual metadata hasn't been updated. Any way to synchronize it or otherwise fix this problem? I am using the latest version of songbird (as of 14/04/09). Any help would be appreciated!

Inappropriate? It has to do with the file type you're trying to update. If your music files are all mp3s, then you shouldn't have a problem. If you're trying to update the metadata of a .m4p or .m4a file, you're going to run into that problem.

Inappropriate?I also had a similar issue. However mine was caused by the fact that the files I was attempting to edit were set to "read-only". I browsed to where the files were and removed the "read-only" attribute and have not had an issue since.
Hope this helps.

Inappropriate?I'm on vista 64bit. All files are mp3. I first checked the settings of the attributes. That didn't help. what else can I do?
EDIT: I solved the problem... Although I made sure to have the Write-Attribute set on the file... you have to do a little more...
Here we go:
(Ps.. I'm on a german System.-..So excuse if there might be wrong words used)
1. Open your Music-Folder with Right-Click
2. Click Properties
3. Press "Security"
4. Click the "Edit" settings of the users
5. A list appears with all Profiles.
6. Search for your Profile (the one you are logged into Vista)... Mine was "User"
7. Now change the Rights for that Profile (check/uncheck in the list below...make sure to give the "Write"-right!)
8. Press "Ok"
9. Press "Ok"
Now you really should have the Write-Rights. -
Inappropriate?i have ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty). Files are in ogg-Format. I have the same problem and can't edit the metadata. Songbird is unable to write the files.
i have test various permission on the ogg-Files, but no solution for this problem. I have songbird 1.2 -
cyrano,
Writing metadata to .ogg files had to be disabled in 1.2 (Bug 16595) Im Sorry :(
But the good news is that it is coming back with full force in Jackson 5 (Bug 16161 + Album Art) -
Inappropriate?Hmm...perhaps it's possible to import as mp3 by default then? Any ideas on how to automate it?
