metadata and ID3 tagging

Why when I save lyrics and album art in Songbird it does not show up in the metadata properties when I look for it in MediaMonkey and vice versa? Are they using multiple ID3 tags? If so, can I specify that each file uses only one that I can fill up across my media players? Thanks, Dave
