I like the Add-on system. I prefer it to have as many features as possible as add-ons, not build in. This way I can have a slight application with only the features I need.

Exactly. Applications should only be made with bare bones functionality, as long as there's an extensive add-on base to back it up.

I disagree. Something like minimizing to the tray is a common feature found in most of today's popular media players. Its absence in Songbird is just another reason for people to check the application off the list. Assuming someone will go and install the add-on is find, but given that every time a new release comes out, the current add-on stops working, that's a problem.
If songbird is ever to compete on a leave with the big guns like iTunes and Winamp, simple, expected features like this need to be included.

Very nicely said. As I mentioned, like Rhythmbox, which means that when one song ends and the next one begins, a little "bubble" would pop up from the icon in the lower left-hand-side of the screen telling you so. And Rhythmbox being free software, the source for such a feature is there, free for Mozilla to use, just might need a little adapting.

I know this looks like an advertisement but I`m sure it is helpful:

A german computer magazine called c`t (published by heise) has published a
open source programm , that allows manyfold tweaks to windows.
It is called "activ'aid".
I just checked : there is also a english version.

One of the many things you can do with it is define a shortcut
to minimize <any> open window to the tray. (e.g. I defined : "win+t").

I takes up about 15mb of ram in my case.

I think Songbird should keep relying strongly on the add-on system!
(i`m not sure about the "now playing, though).

In short for me I don`t need such an add-on or feature at all!
keep the bird slim.

I give an idea like that, and I think this is just the only thing that songbird don't have yet.

I support that idea too: add this feature inside the options menu
