NAS/PogoPlug Blues

Hi all. I am attempting to escape from an iTunes enforced nightmare. I have been using iTunes to organize and sync a large library (65k+ mp3 tracks) of media on my PogoPlug mounted NAS. I've been trying out Songbird and like what I see but Songbird seems to time out on the (admittedly slower) media on the NAS (a static drive letter has been assigned). iTunes would simply buffer on the rare occasions speed was an issue and move on, but Songbird just gets stuck in a loop and then insists that NO media can be found. I can play the files directly with VLC with no problem. Any possible solutions to making Songbird play nice with NAS?
