Ogg albumart problems with Songbird 1.3.1
Songbird 1.3.1 reenables ogg vorbis comments and embedded albumart, but a number of issues with the later have arised. Now the tale.
First try:
Using Songbird 1.3.1 I can embed albumart. Albumart will be shown in mediamonkey, but not in audioshell. It is also shown in mp3tag 2.44.
Something weird is that it embeds the image, but if original image is erased from folder then Songbird will not show albumart, even if image is still embedded as it can be seen in MediaMonkey. If albumart is erased in MediaMonkey (can't be erased in Songbird), and added again in MediaMonkey, the same result: image is embedded but if not in folder then Songbird will not display it. Also, if audiofile is deleted from Songbird library and added again, the albumart will not be displayed, even if mediamonkey shows it is embedded. This is not useful at all: it is supposed that the work to add albumart must be done once, otherwise is a waste of time.
Second try:
Something very strange is that the behaviour is different if the the image name is folder.jpg. In this case, Songbird will now recognize the embedded image even if image file is deleted from directory. Also, Songbird will now recognize the image if the audiofile is deleted from Songbird library and added again. BUT, BUT an awful glitch arises: when the ogg is played, it appears like the audio is trimmed at the beginning, which is not the case as it plays correctly in MediaMonkey and iTunes..... really weird (I didn't confirm, but it seems that VLC shows the play problem at a smaller scale).
The effect will not happen if albumart is erased in MediaMonkey, then added in MediaMonkey as folder.jpg: again, the image is not recognized in Songbird when the audio file is added. The playing glitch does not disappear if folder.jpg is present.
Third try:
For both cases above, if file tag is edited ogg file is not corrupted, as it happened when I tried the following alternative to add albumart to my ogg files.
If albumart is added with mp3tag 2.44, Songbird 1.3.1 will recognize it without glitches (albumart not recognized by Songbird 1.1.3, 1.2). The imagefile embedded with mp3tag is not necessary to be named folder.jpg, and no need to keep image file in directory. It is also recognized by MediaMonkey. It seemed to be the perfect solution. I added albumart with this method to 100's of audiofiles. I stopped because I began to add lyrics to my songs, and some minor changes to other tags using Sonbird.......... WTF again file corruption. Corruption of ogg files happens if tags are edited with songbird 1.1.3 and 1.3.1 after adding albumart with mp3tag. Ogg files are not corrupted if tags are edited in mp3tag. Also they are not corrupted if tags are edited in MediaMonkey, but albumart is not displayed anymore in Songbird.
So, again I'm stucked with ogg tagging in Songbird, which is annoying because I really love this program. Hope this helps to find a solution to this ogg tagging problem in Songbird.

Inappropriate?Hello,
I haven't read all of your post yet, but I just want to let you know that I'll look into this tomorrow (I gotta test to study for tonight).. Sorry if im making you more anxious :-P
I’m hoping I can help you out tomorrow...
-
Inappropriate?Ok. Really hope it helps. I'm in the process of adding albumart with third method. Problem is that if I want to change some tags, I have to open mp3tag ... cumbersome.
Sorry if you find broken english. I'm not native speaker.
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?Sorry tomorrow turned into next week :-P
And just a heads up, I'm testing this on Songbird 1.4b with mp3tag.
First:
Something weird is that it embeds the image, but if original image is erased from folder then Songbird will not show albumart
I can't reproduce this myself. (maybe i'm doing something different from what you did)
...and added again in MediaMonkey, the same result: image is embedded but if not in folder then Songbird will not display it.
This is because Songbird deals with files differently than other programs, It won't updated changes that you made in other programs automatically, it's information is kept in its database... You should see the art if you right-click on the track and Select "Get Album Artwork".. Alternatively, if you edit metadata outside of Songbird frequently, you may want to go to about:config and set songbird.commands.enableRescanItem to true. To get the "Rescan Metadata" entry when right-clicking a track. (The Power Tools add-on also has this).
Second:
I'm not getting any gliches in ogg's with messing the album art, but if you are reproducing that, by all means we need to file a bug on that ... (And iTunes can't play ogg's, are you sure those are the right files?)
Third:
Alrighty, this is where I'm running into bad things..
I added album art through mp3tag, then edited metadata in Songbird => file corruption! (can't play it in any player, and vlc can "play" it but no sound)
So ya hopefully we're clear on the first two, but I'm going to investigate the file corruption with mp3tag+Songbird more, and see if it is just the interaction of those two together or if it is adding album art with other programs+Songbird... Some bug will need to be filed.

Inappropriate?I filed Bug 17958 for the mp3tag+Songbird corruption.
If you can give me the exact steps you took to get the glitches and/or all the other stuff I couldn't reproduce then I'll investigate those further.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I will check it with 1.4 and let you know. By the way, ogg can be reproduced with itunes. http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/downloa.... but it doesn't show albumart.
My player sansa clip now plays oggs with firmware upgrade :) GREAT!!
Seem to be good times for ogg..... and songbird has a big part on this. -
Inappropriate?OK. I tried with Songbird 1.4.
1. The first issue now is absent with Songbird 1.4.0b1. I can embed image, erase audiofile from Songbird database, add it again, and Songbird will show the image.
2. Second issue.
The effect do not happen under certain special conditions, which I cannot track as well as I like. I identified the following: add albumart in songbird (then the issue is there), then remove albumart in mp3tag, discharge audiofile from songbird database, recharge audiofile to songbird, add albumart in songbird (the issue does not appear now).
The issue always shows up if you add a new folder with songs using 'import media': (you will need audio files that have sound as soon as they start playing, as most of mine are): after embedding the image, if I play the file, it will not 'start' at the beginning of the audiofile, but several miliseconds, or seconds after. The file hears 'chopped'. It seems the 'chopped' sizing depends of the size of the embedded image. Anyway, it is not really chopped: other players do not chop the audiofile (wmp, itunes, ...).
3. I discovered something new about the third issue. If I add album art in sonbird and then edit the tags, it remains playable in songbird. If I add albumart in songbird, and then edit the tags with mp3tag, it remains playable in songbird. If I add albumart in Songbird, then edit tags with mp3tag, and then edit tags with songbird, the file become corrupted. Multiple tag edition without albumart is ok.
hope this helps
I’m a little bit less anxious (thanks for your follow up)

Inappropriate?ruh roh.. ok i am noticing the chopping/cut off (about a second or a little less) at the beginning of songs now by adding artwork. (I will file a bug.)
If I add albumart in Songbird, then edit tags with mp3tag, and then edit tags with songbird, the file become corrupted
Yup, thats along the same line as the first bug I filed... it looks like once mp3tag takes a hold of a file with artwork and any metadata is edited & saved(i assume it is re-saving the artwork too what it likes), Then Songbird must not notice something about the change or just not like it, and corrupts it when editing metadata in songbird. (Even if you do a "Rescan Metadata" to update the track before you edit it in Songbird, it still corrupts it.)
I’m thankful for you tracking this down!

1.4 is shooting for a early to mid October release.. you can follow the updates on the blog.. the next 1.4 beta should have these fixes in them... -
Inappropriate?Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but one of the problems you all mentioned is not fixed for me. I'm using 1.4.1b2, and all of my vorbis files with album art are being truncated by about half a second at the beginning.
To be honest I haven't checked out the other problems to see if they're still there, but I don't really care if I can view the album art in MediaMonkey. -
Inappropriate?Hey foolishgrunt, I would hop into Bug 18002 and tell them you still experience this and attach a file or two also and as much details as possible.
