OGG file truncated tags with hyphen
When importing OGG files Songbird ignores tag data after a "-" (hyphen) character. I have many files with hyphens in titles that read fine with MP3 format but the same title tags as OGG files get truncated. Is there some valid reason for this or is it a known bug? It's totally annoying as for consistency it looks like I now need to convert files from OGG to MP3 to have the data imported correctly. Using Version 1.2 on Unbuntu 9.04

Inappropriate?I've never heard of this bug - can you provide a file that behaves this way (just in case it's something more complex). Hopefully we can fix it for the next release - and then you won't need to convert your files - that wouldn't be great for audio quality.
Email the file to me at msmith@songbirdnest.com

Inappropriate?Hey Chris,
I cant reproduce this with a 1.4 build.. It might be worth updating to the 1.4 beta that will be released soon (or waiting a few weeks for the final release). -
Inappropriate? Thanks Mike. I have sent an example file to you.
I'd certainly prefer not to convert to mp3 on these files and if the problem is fixed in 1.4 then I'd just wait a while before importing the current versions. The files at issue are classical and have tempo indications after the "-" or even piece names so are important to keep intact. Note that I have been checking the Ogg tags with EasyTag 2.1.6 and so that is what I am using to check the hyphens are present before import.
I have also seen some strange behaviour related to quotes (") being in file names. The files become inaccessible and metadata non-editable in Songbird. This is for mp3 files. I'm pretty sure that has been noticed and will be fixed before long, maybe in the next version. It happens often that classical tracks with nicknames get that name put in quotes as part of the file name and so I have seen this behaviour a few times and have been forced to alter the filenames and re-import to work around it.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
It turns out that your files (or at least the one you sent to me) do NOT have a hyphen at all in the title or album.
What they _do_ have is two title, and two album tags. Some software displays only the first of these. Other software merges them - displaying it as a single string. I guess EasyTag merges them by separating them with a hyphen. Songbird currently just reads the first of them.
If you just change them to have a single title/album tag (which can have a hyphen in it! That's 100% ok), then it should work fine in all apps.
I've never heard of the behaviour about files to quotes in the filenames - I'll have to have a look at that when I have a bit more time.

Inappropriate? Thanks Mike for your help looking at the file.
In trying to fix this I found a program called Ex Falso (Linux) that provides more flexibility for seeing multiple tags and fixing them. That may be useful for others if they have this problem.
I did fix the files however Ex Falso also did something weird that makes these files unable to be opened in EasyTag (2.1.6). EasyTag exits immediately upon hitting any of the fixed files.
Songbird reads them fine (but will refuse to save metadata back to the file after). Very strange and I have no idea what ExFalso did. MP3Tag in Windows reads and writes the files. I'm ok with them as is because I got the correct info set and imported to Songbird. Hope this info helps other users.
All in a day's mp3 work...
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Regarding the file name quotes I'll see if I can verify it and give you an example. I think it was only double quotes not single. ie. " not '
I’m thankful
