Playlist folder support in Songbird
It will be nice if songbird can support playlist folder. I used iTunes and I have roughly 100 playlists and it's all organized in folder, e.g. Download date, Categories, Hits, Burned CDs, etc.
When Songbird supports playlist folder + smart playlist (smart playlist will be included in 0.7) I will definitely switch to songbird for good. Can't wait till that day come! :D

Yeah, I was very dissapointed this is not even on the scheduled roadmap.. This is one of the most important feature imho. Compared to CD-ripping/burning, you can always use external application to achieve that, but you can't do that for playlist folders.
I hope i'm not being an a** by saying this thing..
I’m dissapointed

Thanks for your suggestion.
This is planned for 0.7 release for smart playlists and also filed as a Feature Suggestion for playlists.

Inappropriate?I am looking forward to making the permanent switch to Songbird as well when smart playlists are introduced to the format. Any idea when we might expect this to happen? Thanks guys and keep up the good work!!
I’m ecstatic
-
Inappropriate?Smart Playlists are already in version 0.7 RC1. Good to hear they're working on folders too.
I’m jubilant
-
Inappropriate?yup. this is all that's keeping me from switching entirely.
-
Inappropriate?seems like playlist folder is not the company's top priority. it doesn't show on the roadmap..
-
Inappropriate?did this ever happen?
-
Inappropriate?@brian
what do you mean? -
Inappropriate?I see that an employee replied that playlist folders were planned for the .7 release, but I can't seem to find them in the 1.0 release, and a quick search online looks like nobody else can either-- I'm a little confused. Was this feature (the ability to put playlists into separate folders, like in iTunes) ever incorporated into Sonbird, or no?
-
Inappropriate?@brian
oh, the employee said that only the smart playlist is planned for .7 release, while playlist folder is just planned (but don't know when) *sigh*

Inappropriate?Still has not been implemented in the 1.1 release.

I really do not understand why cd ripping burning is not intended to become an add-on. there are a lot of people not needing it or using omethin else.
Playlist folders can not be substituted by add-ons without substituting the player! -
100% agree! well said! -
Inappropriate?Yes, folders for playlists are a good Idea (there is another topic which suggests the same, as far as I understood it)
AND: I also would love it to have folders for the bookmarks!
or another way to remember YouTube videos. maybe via "URL" field in the youtube player? somhow like this: mark "url" to this video on the YouTube Page, right click, and then have the option "bookmark this url" or "remeber this video" AND "ad this video to a playlist" -
Inappropriate?Sub folders for playlists are important
-
Inappropriate?BIg +1 for this, I reckon its crucial to those of us with several thousand tracks

Inappropriate?I don' want to be mean but is it really, really hard to make folders? Probably there were other more important problems, but I would really like to see this soon.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I just tried the new release and imported my iTunes playlists. Since it looses the hierarchical structure of my iTunes playlists it makes Songbird useless for me.
-
Inappropriate? This is not in the new release?!?! Folder support is the only reason I can't switch to Songbird, please put this on the next update.
-
Inappropriate?i wonder if they actually want to implement this in the first place
I’m really really frustrated

Inappropriate?Started using songbird this morning when I saw all the cool features.
Stopped using songbird this morning when I realized there was no playlist folder option.
I’m back on iTunes

Yeah, I feel your pain dude. I'm sure it'll come though. Might take a couple of releases, but definitely worth a check back every so often to see how it's doing :) -
i doubt its gonna take a couple of releases... probably this feature will be added in version 5.0 or something... -
Inappropriate?Yeah, playlists synchronized with folders would be awesome!
-
For that you could use FolderSync. But, like MikeyLIkesIt noticed, is not the part of this topic. -

I like that idea too, but that's not what playlist folders are. Playlist folders are just having the ability to organize your playlists by placing them into different folders. The folder also acts like a super playlist in that it let's you play all the files from the playlists inside the folder. This is really useful when you have hundreds of playlists, like me.
Sub Folders are also really important. I have 5 main branches in my folders :
- Music
- Audio Books
- Intellectual
- Queries
- Tags
Inside each of these main categories I keep other folders and playlists of more specific types. For Audio Books, you'll find Authors and then Series and Finally regular playlists for each book. I use playlists to assign Tags to my tracks as well. There are different types of tags: topics (biology, environment, nanotech, austrian economics, etc.), music moods, music genre's (better than ID3 genre field because multiple tags can be assigned).
Anyway, as you can see, without folders to help keep all of these playlists organized, I'd have a massive list of playlists which is really just too hard to use.
PLEASE ... provide folders for playlists.

Inappropriate?True, but I have a patch up on Bug 8760 that adds support for both Playlist and Bookmark folders. It just requires a positive review from one of the Songbird developers.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? This is still only found on the "Currently Unscheduled Feature Requests" page. Nothing on the road map about it yet. RAnderson has me excited, though, as it sounds like it may be coming sooner than we expected?
-
Inappropriate?please please please add this!! i used playlist folders a lot with mediamonkey .. and am really missing that feature!
I’m anxious
