Inappropriate?Hi Kyle L.,
If I understand your question (if you can call it that), then you are curious about using Songbird for podcasts and/or other subscriptions. While Songbird is designed to handle podcast subscriptions, there are a number of bugs/issues currently with RSS feeds that we are working on. To track the comments on these work items in Bugzilla :
1. Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of bug #8573 and bug #10160;
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box;
3. Scroll down and hit commit.
If you don't have a free bugzilla account, signing up is quick and easy and will allow you to share your feedback directly with the development team. -
I was looking for any help on podcatching I could find, but BugZilla looks a little daunting to get into for someone starting to use SongBird. Personally, I just want to have a podcatcher that is usable and not iTunes. -
Inappropriate?Gotcha. Well we are in need of improved Podcast support and it's not too high up on the current projects list, so for now, what you see is what you get.
I’m sure that's not what you wanted to hear...

Inappropriate?I don't know how big a fix it would be, but even if the podcast downloader could recognize a file has already been downloaded, that would be a good start.
I’m disssappointed but understanding.
-
Inappropriate?podcasts are off the roadmap and it is not clear they will ever support them. sorry about that, I wish it were not so, but it is.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I too am disappointed with the podcatching ability of Songbird. And am even more disappointed in them falling off the roadmap. :(
In the meantime, I am still using Juice to do the podcatching, and let Songbird suck the downloaded songs into the library. Juice is old & slow, but it works.
I have taken to using Foldersync to sync a podcast smart playlist to a directory on my non-Apple media device. The only issue is this is not a 2-way sync, but only Songbird=>to=>device sync, so I have to delete the podcasts from SB and then they will be deleted from the device.
Also, the great Audio Bookmarks extension is awesome for keeping track of where you are in a given episode.
I’m frustrated at podast support falling off the roadmap
-
If you're on windows, good news is, you will be able to use MSC or MTP sync with your device very very soon. It is easier to use than Foldersync, also FS is prefect for non-Windows OSs, I think. You will just need to remove the podcast from the playlist to get it removed from your device. -
Well, I am indeed on a non-Windows operating system, so no luck there. And yes, removing the file from the system or the song from the playlist removes it from the device. Not a huge issue by any means, just not perfect... :)
Personally, isn't podcast support more important than CD ripping? More & more music purchases are going to downloads, not purchasing CDs and ripping. -
Inappropriate?vmos, I can't tell from your reply, but did you know podcasting is off the kanye release? It was dropped some months ago and never rescheduled.
Songbird looked interesting when it for came out, but I can't believe they hyped such a mediocre effort as a 1.0 release. It was nowhere near a 1.0, nor even a beta, because it was missing all the interesting features. Now it looks like it will never live up to its promise.
Now it is just another music manager on Windows (other platforms, particularly linux, have been left behind), and there already is a good music manager on Windows - iTunes. Why would I want an inferior iTunes clone on Windows?
I’m anxious about chemistry

I think vmos was taking a stab at sarcasm due to the naming of the release "Kayne".
I think that Songbird 1.0 was not necessarily a feature release, but certainly a stability release. Prior versions I tried had stability issues, and regardless of whatever features are in a release, if it is not stable it is not worth releasing.
Actually, I am really grooving Songbird both on Windows & OS X. It allows me to do things I cannot do with iTunes like sync to a non-Apple media player. It utilizes on two very powerful platforms, Mozilla & GStreamer. It offers open development of extensions.
From a philosophical point, it is open in ways iTunes never will be. I do not have to have an iTunes account in order to utilize all the features.
