Problems/issues/suggestions for songbird 1.1
hi. so I'm a fellow songbird lover too and all that and i really think its got great potential but there's just a few things in songbird 1.1 that I'm not really sure about -
1) If you open up multiple tabs, you can't change the media view back in the main library - was this always the case?
2) While starting up, if songbird is installing updates it seems to just stop after finding and installing the updates - as in it wont open up the media player and i usually have to shut it down and start it up again
3) There's a few add-ons that were really awesome in songbird 1.0 that aren't compatible with songbird 1.1 - i know that they are mostly developed by third party developers and all that meaning it takes longer for them to catch on. However, there's a few add-ons out there that are quite critical I reckon and maybe should be added permanently to the player? Most notably so - the exorcist, song notifier, seeqpod *, and among the web player side of things - google search, adplus, noscript, ultimate guitar search (this is one feature i absolutely loved!). Oh and you know just as the cool asides - (8)photo, divided tag cloud.
I know the examples I've given in 3) are probably going to seem silly to some people, but on the other hand they are all addons that have received a fair number of downloads and good reviews. In no way do I expect or want the web player addons or the "coolies" to be permanent features of songbird - people would just hate me for that lol:P. But I do feel the first 3 I mentioned are worthwhile.
*seeqpod - at the moment it appears seeqpod isn't supported by songbird 1.1? still it seems to have just been retained by songbird 1.0 and appears in the sidebar as "&servicepane.seeqpodsearch" it doesnt actually do anything it just sits there lol. should I simply uninstall it?
Any comments, suggestions and solutions are always welcome!
PS: I still love songbird! :P

Inappropriate?I thought an uninstall would get rid of the &servicepane.seeqpod ghost, but it's still there after the uninstall (?!). I have a similar ghost hanging around after uninstalling the nowplaying extension: the Play Queue link is still at the bottom of the pane but doesn't do anything. Anybody know how to get these to uninstall cleanly?
I’m confused

Inappropriate?yup I tried that too to no avail. Is anyone else having the other problems too? most notably the update problem?
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?Could you go into your profile folder and look under extensions, if anything of these mentioned addons remained?
-
I don't see anything in my Profile folder that looks like it belonged to these extensions. I looked at the install.rdf files in each subfolder of the "extensions" directory to find out which extension the the subfolder was for -- but none were from the extensions mentioned. (If others are trying to check this in Windows: type %appdata% into your file manager window and look for Songbird under Profiles.) -
Inappropriate?I concur with bibliophile - I haven't found any of the extensions in the profile folder - I should mention however that many of the mentioned add-ons have been updated since mentioned SWEET! However, the same thing happened - it wouldn't open up songbird after installing the updates - i had to end process and start it up again. in addition with the lack of a seeqpod update I still have a "&servicepane.seeqpodsearch" thing that doesnt disappear from the side pane.

Inappropriate?anyone?

Inappropriate? If the problem persists. There will be no way around a fresh profile.
Deleting your existing one and starting new should cure bugs caused by add-ons.
You can use the songbird profile manager to do so.

I've actually got a similar problem - despite of the fact that songbird doesn't even find any updates for my addons. D: it just keeps on searching and searching, but not even the progress bar is moving at least a bit and it sticks with "Checking for Updates".
Version: Songbird 1.1.1, Build 1018 (20090309145106), Ubuntu 8.04 -
That sometimes happens, when the servers are slow to respond and addons have to be fetched from different locations.
Does that happen ALL the time for you, or just randomly?
