Ram usage is just absoludicrous
This is a problem. I'll be sticking to my decent media player but still search for an acceptable open source alternative. I'm not going to slaughter you guys since you're still beta and WIP but I think it's important to let you know that ram usage is still important in these days of aero and beryl and other ridiculously taxing things. How about simple, straight forward and working?
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.
The company is working on this problem.

Inappropriate? Also what's with the incredibly annoying web2.0 on this site? It's really making me feel like I'm getting stupider...
-
Inappropriate?First, hello.
Second, I like this site. It gets the job done very well.
Third, thanks for your feedback.
This is a widely and often described problem and is worked on very hard. If you would stop rambling and start searching this site, you would have found more then one Topic on the Ram usage of songbird, and in those topics, answers from the dev's themselves.
Again. TO ALL: Please use the search function of this site, to prevent some double posts. Just add your concerns to existing ones. Maybe your questions have already been answered and you can solve your problem just by reading, instead of waiting for an answer yourself.
Thank you.
Tyler out.
I’m sad, that rambling people don't adhere to reason.

Inappropriate?I'm going to have to disagree with the site comment, I feel like this site is trying to smother me in happy. I seriously feel like I'm in a psychologists' office and they're trying to calm me down, which is unessecary since I came here to tell a program that is currently in alpha that it has a few bugs not that I was righteously indignant over the fact that a piece of new open source software didn't fill my increasingly demanding expectations. I am a web developer and I must say that there's a point where someones graphically advanced site is just annoying. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to post any feedback at all if I were on dialup, and it's taking long enough to load and render pages with a cable connection from western New York.
When I uninstalled Songbird, I recieved a prompt asking me to fill out a short survey, and I did since I know that getting feedback on a product otherwise is just an awful endeavor. When I finished I was directed to a webpage saying something like "It was cool that you provided feedback, thanks". Gotta be honest, I understand the viewpoint of someone who made that survey, but it came off as condescending, as though the program was trying to be the bigger man (It's a file, it doesn't get to be the bigger man). The simple to grasp and understand emoticons at the bottom of the page look like a very shallow and unintelligent version of me. We've come a long way since the cavemen apparently.
Also, the reason I posted a thread about my problem was because I assumed, reasonably, that the "feedback" link at the bottom of the page would send the devs an e-mail, not send me to some sort of forum.
Now that I look at the URL it appears the makers of the product are in no way responsible for the layout of this site.
Huh... Songbird group, please ignore inapplicable text. Get Satisfaction, take notes. -
Inappropriate?Yup, this is the site of getsatisfaction, not one of Songbird. The people behind songbird and many other applications out there outsource the hosting of the feedback forums to this place here.
Twitter, facebook, miro, add-on developers from Firefox, wua.la, last.fm and even Apple, Google and Dell have sites here. So I guess your disliking of the site isn't the shared opinion of too many.
I for myself find this site very structured and highly useful. If I answer someones questions, I immediately get a notification, if that person answers, so that I can get back and help him further. If I have a question, the same applies.
Then, problems and suggestions each have their respective color scheme, so that one willing to help can sort through those more quickly and find people, who are in need of help.
That for the site alone.
Now to the POTI people, that are behind Songbird.
The dev's are very high contributors to this site. Every major issue and question is indeed answered by a dev, personally.
It can't get better than that. You get an answer directly from the horses mouth, rather then having your usual clustered unusable forum, where the dev's themselves are rarely seen.
I like this site. It does a great job at providing the ground for feedback. And I love the Songbird-Team, because they are just awesome people.
Tyler out!
I’m thrilled and in love with this project.

Inappropriate?I agree. This site smothers me in happy. Not in a smokescreen way... in a productive, friendly and supportive way. I feel indebted for the free product, the free support and the friendly devs. I'd like to point out that we users should not talk to the devs as though they are employees of ours, beta or not.
I, like everyone, am a webdev. The site is fine.
I’m frustrated at the human spirit.

Inappropriate?DarkPassenger,
We're totally aware of the memory problems, and we're doing some work to address them. Our upcoming release will include an overhaul of the metadata scanning infrastructure (one of the memory hogs), and we're starting to work in support for GStreamer as our media core to phase out VLC. One major problem we're seeing with VLC is that it likes to leak. We'll take a comprehensive look at our memory usage picture again once this release is done, and we'll figure out what to tackle next. -
Inappropriate?Users don't adhere to reason and don't always want to take the time to search a forum, they just give the feedback as it comes...
...sorry, you'll have to live with it and keep on the good work
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?True...
But some kind of administrative tool, to merge topics, which are just one and the same would be very nice, to keep the readability and usability of such a forum up.
I think I'll ask for such a thing to the getsatisfaction guys and gals. Let's see, what they have to say.
Tyler out! -
Inappropriate?Even with RAM usage being "absoludicrus" (I think that word will now become part of my normal vocabulary) I think the project is going fantastic considering I use it everyday even though it is still ALPHA. I have found very few software projects that have been in this usable a state in beta, let alone alpha.
I tip my hat to all of the developers here.
Also, I like the site just fine.
I’m intrigued by the project
