Random album add-on

I love it when a plan comes together...

What I'd really like to be able to do is, mark albums is either song-shuffle or album-shuffle. When the shuffle mix is done - it should keep all the songs from albums marked as album shuffle together and in order, and randomize the rest.

I song shuffle rock/jazz/celtic/folk - but not classical (I like my concertos in order)

like it, like! That would be awesome. I wonder how easy that would be to implement. Possibly as a tag type metadata type idea?

that's what I was thinking - a check box "shuffle album" with a meta data tag should do it. - well and changes to the shuffle algorithm, to look at that tag - I haven't looked at any of the code so I have no idea how they implemented shuffle. One thing I notice (and find really annoying) on my iPod is when I turn on shuffle - and start a play list - it's always the exact same "random" order - I think they never change the seed.

yeah, but apple's shuffle algorithm was always a bit sketch wasn't it? I seem to remember them having to release a bunch of updates for it back in the day 'cause they kept getting it wrong. I saw a couple of threads on here suggesting that the bird's is less than perfect but I'm sure it'll be ironed out soon. I too would like this... I just found that ashughes filed this feature a while ago in Bug 11105

yes this would be really really awesome. I dunno about all that choosing which albums to shuffle or not but definately shuffle by album. Its odd getting to Kanon Wakeshima's Shinshoku Dolce album, stopping and having to take Songbird off shuffle to play it all the way through and then switching back to shuffle again.

I really think this it's a cool and necessary feature.

When you are using songbird it's better to randomize albums in order to not get the same albums repeated more often than others.

Whereas I do think shuffle by album would be a great feature and I'm all for it, what I had in mind for this is minutely different, in that it would only enque a single album. My plan was that you could left click on the button to select options / input parameters and right click to make it do the magic. Then, it would enque and start playing the randomly selected album, bring up the cover art and perhaps provide a bit of background info from wikipedia - on the actual alsum, not just the artist.

If anyone considers this at all useful, might we add to the current feature request or open a new one?

I think it is an important feature, and respect for the old school album listeners, i'm on that wagon myself, an album is like a painting, you cannot just look at a little part of the picture you have to see the whole thing=0), ahh well i also listen to random songs so who am i kidding. But anyway, this feature would be really top nudge.

A click on a button and a random album would be enqueued in moshy's now playing list.

It would be like the "Album of the Day" feature on the Creative Zen, and with that feature in Songbird, well yeah that could just be a blast.
