refresh library: delete broken links, re-read metadata information
Hi,
I have just started (yesterday) to use songbird and I must say it is on many ways a really great thing. But I do not find a couple of features which are for me knock-out creteria.
In short:
a way to keep the library up-to-date if you perform changes (file name/path or metadata) externally to songbird.
Those are the key "words":
1) How to completely delete the library data base and start over again with a scan from scratch (fundamental): in a clean way and without killing all other settings (say you radically change the structure of your music storage)
2) A "delete broken link" feature is missing (fundamental): say I rename/delete/move many files --> I will have the new ones found (if existing) with a scan (file -> import media) but the old ones will still be listed up, and being "many" a manual fix is a non sense.
3) A better solution for position 2. would be a refresh option for the entire database: not only for the files but also for the metadata information IN the files: say I keep the same file structure/names but I edit the metedata information with an external program. Songbird does not realize it and keeps the old information! (the metadata correction is fundamental too)
4) It would be obviously nice if the whole "refresh" procedure (scan for new songs, delete broken links, re-read and correct metadata information) would happen automatically at program start-up (nice to have but it would be enough for me if all those procedures could be started manually)
If there is already a way to do those things please tell me, if not please consider seriously to introduce those features soon in future releases while for sure a lot of people have the same demand.
thanks.

Inappropriate? The lack of a refresh button is the single most frustrating lack of a songbird feature.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? It looks like no answer from the company in sight .....
In another post ("How do I manually refresh or reload my music library?"), there are 2 suggestion on it:
one of the 2 is dirty but it looks working, the other one is more clean but still buggy (not reliable, fully functioning) (see my reply)
In another post ("Refresh/update of library content?") it is promised "We're going to get this functionality covered in our next release .... coming out in Feb '09"
Let's see what happens ....
I’m anxious, frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I agree to one71 that this functionality is missing. Please try to get this fixed in the next release (until then I will stick to iTunes, sorry guys).
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hello guys!! Don't look so frustrated...
Makes me a sad mod...
Why do you think this open forum here exists?
It's for you. Our users are dear to us and your suggestions and remarks are always welcome.
Why do you think the February release will include "Watch Folders"?
Because you users voted for it with asking for this feature, right here on getsatisfaction.
Sorry for the late reply to this post. Since we went to Version 1.0 of Songbird, the amount of Posts here has quadrupled and it's hard to keep up with every post (but we're trying).
For all the future awesomness, that is going to be implemented, have a look at our Roadmap on getsongbird.com
And always remember, Patience is a Virtue,
Tyler out!

Inappropriate?Hi
I have just tested the new feature in 1.1. and it really looks like it does everything I wanted: inclusive the change of the metadata information when an external program changes them on an already existing file. Still I have tested on a very small test db (on the productive PC I still have 1.0 since some adds-on which I use are not available jet) but it looks really nice: good job guys!
I’m thankful, excited

See? That is the goodness, that is Open Source!!
