I've changed the MP3 tags of some files using an external editor. Songbird is still showing the old tags. Is there a way to "reload" the collection so the new tags show up?

This is a hidden 'power' option.
To do this:
1) open a new tab
2) go to : 'about:config'
3) be careful
4) search for: songbird.commands.enableRescanItem
5) double click the value field, so it goes to: 'true'
You might need to restart songbird.
I don't know if this affects performance, but it will do what you need.
