Inappropriate? There is no Remove Duplicates function in Songbird.
Scanning the Media to the library prevents from adding the duplicates.
That means, it won't add the same file (from the same location) twice.
If you have the same song stored in different locations, it will be added to the library.
Files having different location paths are not considered dupes -
Inappropriate?Furthermore. There is an add-on called "Attack of the clone" which let you browse duplicate tracks (which are on different locations). From here you should be able to remove them easily

Inappropriate?i found duplicate entry in the same folder in my library contrary to whats said by faaab. however when i look at that folder, i only see one copy of the song. i imported an amarok playlist to songbird. what's wrong here ?
-
Inappropriate?I tried to get the extension "Attack of the Clones" but it is grayed out as unneeded in Songbird .7. Guess again! I've got duplicates from head to toe! (I have a "My Music Library as well as an iTunes library, and some files on another hard drive)
Maybe what is needed is a tool to help reorganize someones massive music collection. -
Inappropriate?@Peter
It's grayed out, because it has to be updated by add-on author to be compatible with the latest Songbird version..
Reagarding duplicates...if you have the same files stored in different locations, they will be added to the libtary. Songbird recognizes duplicates by location path.
It will prevent adding the same files from the same folder twice, but it will add the same songs from different folders. -
Inappropriate?I've got tons of duplicates showing up in my library. In each case the file location is the same but there are variations in how Song Bird displays the file path. Some will be in all lowercase, some with caps, some will start with "file:///" others will start with just a drive letter. In some cases I have three or four versions of the same file turning up in the library.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?@Vig
This sounds familiar...
I think this might be due to the way you import your files to the library.
Do you have playlists (.pls) files for the same songs that are already in a library?
If you import those playlists, it will create duplicates.
That's a known issue and we have a bug filed. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, Boris. I figured that might be the cause. Am I correct in assuming that the only fix right now is to remove the playlists and re-import the audio files?
-
Inappropriate?Woah, really? Could you post a screen shot?
-
Inappropriate?Boris, can you please post a link to the bug? I would like to follow this issue. Thank you!
The only way I have found to use Songbird as an alarm clock is by importing playlists, and if I do this every morning I'm going to have a lot of duplicates!
I’m bent in the middle

I have a lot of duplicates because I subscribed the a page twice. All files got downloaded again. -
Inappropriate?@Vig
Yes, that sounds like the only solution for now. -
Inappropriate?I'm using 0.7 and still having this problem. I imported all the files from my music folder, then I added all my playlists from foobar (which was a _pain_ to do one at a time) and I ended up with many, many files in my library two or three times. Also, the Exorcist add-on does not seem to be able to remove them.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have an opposite problem. I participate in a site which has a weekly theme, and we all suggest songs that fit. I collect the songs I want to listen to in a folder, create a playlist, and drag the folder to the playlist. Some of the songs may alreasdy be in my library though, and they are removed as duplicates. I'd like them to all go onto the playlist, and then at some later date run a remove dupes function on my library if I so choose.
-
Inappropriate?tincanman2010, that sounds like actually a symptom of the poor handling of duplicates. Songbird should detect that those songs are already in your library and add them to the playlist. It shouldn't need to create a duplicate entry in your library just to put it in a playlist. I really can't think of any reason why someone would want the same file in their library more than once. If anyone can, I'd like to hear it.
