SHOUTcast server with Songbird 1.0 (Windows)
(Sorry, I posted this to the Songbird-dev Google group as well.)
Hello folks,
I have searched Google and other sites for information on how to run a SHOUTcast server using Songbird as the source or how to use Songbird to stream music.
I am interested in using open source software as I make my move to Linux and slide away from Windows. However, on Windows, I have for years using SHOUTcast DNAS, a SHOUTcast Winamp plug-in, and Winamp to stream my music so I may listen to it at work. The SHOUTcast server uses Winamp as the audio source.
Is there any way to do something similar to this using Songbird?
Thank you!
Mike
P.S. > I'm a big Winamp fan for its simplicity and greatly dislike iTunes, WMP, and the rest. Songbird looks promising but there are some features that I wished worked better (such as notifications, easy one click button to switch to the mini player -- kind of like a blind or shade, and so on).

Inappropriate?SHOUTcast Radio add-on works very nice with Songbird on all the platforms including Linux.
You can install the add-on at:
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
Looks like the latest fixes require Songbird 1.1.0pre builds.
You can download the latest nightly builds and the latest add-on version(use the same day build and add-on) from:
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Develope...
Give it a try.
Happy streaming! -
Inappropriate?Hello Boris,
I don't want to listen to a SHOUTcast stream, I want to stream the music Songbird is playing. Much like how I described my use of Winamp.
Thanks.
I’m saddened.

Inappropriate?Oh...sorry for misunderstanding...
What you're asking for will be doable in form of add-on after we release Songbird 1.1 (February, 2009).
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Boris, I cannot wait for that to be available! You have no idea how awesome that will be. Is it planned to work cross-platform (at least Win-Lin)?
Songbird is my front running alternative to Winamp.
I’m excited!

Inappropriate?Hey team, it's February '09 .. where's this functionality at?
-
Inappropriate?Same query here. Its June 2009. I'd like this ability not just on windows though, but on all platforms. The main reason I'd like this is that this would allow one to play music on an Airport Express. You could have Songbird as the main server serving the audio and iTunes running on a device that can stream to the Airport Express. Forget DNAS - Apple continues to break that protocol. Fortunately, they cannot ignore shoutcast. Use that.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Id like to see this plugin. SAM and Virtual DJ are too costly for a jow that just wants to stream his playlist to a shoutcast server. Nothing fancy
-
Inappropriate?Okay, so version 1.2.0 is out (thank you very much!).
Any word yet on a plugin for hosting a SHOUT cast server stream?
