Show "Browser" in the Sidebar
Since I started using Songbird I have always wondered if there is a reason why there browser isn't listed as an item in the sidebar. Those who don't like the integrated browser in the first place might not want any more attention drawn to it, but since Songbird does treat it as an important feature, maybe there should be an easy sidebar item for accessing it. I know you can click on bookmarks, or hit ctrl+t to make a new tab, but people, especially new to the program, might seek an easy visual way to easy access it. Sometimes I even find myself looking for a way to click into the browser to go to a page, but I realize I have to open a new tab with a keyboard shortcut instead. Am I missing something about it?

Inappropriate?Maybe a Start page Bookmark :
"surf the web"
Linking to something like the google firefox homehomepage would be nice!
And don`t forget to include the bird! -
Your idea inspired me to just make a new tab page suggestion :). And since that Google page is one of the ways Firefox generates revenue, maybe Songbird could do something similar to what you suggested. -
Inappropriate?(Murphy, your last three ideas have been awesome btw)
Ya, I would have to agree that the browser transition could be a little more seamless in Songbird. As easy as it is hitting Ctrl+T or using the NewTabButton add-on, I think it could be a little more user friendly for a transparent switch to the interwebs... Maybe when more web subscription based features (like podcasts and such) come along, it will help with the web-side integration.

Inappropriate? This is a very good idea indeed.
Even in SB 1.3, it is still difficult for a newbie to open a new page. The only 2 ways are File/Open new tab or clicking on a bookmark... Not obvious, and you have to know that there is a browser inside :) (ok, you should now it, because at installation the addons page is displayed by default :) )
The proposal you made in the other post about the new layout inspired by FF 3.7 or 4 is simple and efficient...
I’m confused

ya definitely, putting the location bar/super-awesome-bar in there by default is probably the best way to solve the problem.. -
Inappropriate?I made this mockup for a different thread, but one of the UI changes in it ended up being a new way for the browser to function in Songbird, so I thought it was worth posting here. In the mockup, the browser is an item in the service pane that you could click to access a new tab page of some sort; a generic way to access the web. It also shows how the tabs could be incorporated into the the service pane as vertical tabs, such as in this firefox mockup. This could remove some of the confusion that exists in Songbird by having both the service pane and tab bar visible at the same time. I also thought it would be neat if when the user clicked on a Bookmark item, it could slide into the Tabs area, since it would save room in the service pane and ensure that each website only appeared once in it.

Alternatively (maybe even as an option in the preferences), tabs could function horizontally as they do in most browsers; however, I still think that it would be a good idea to only show the tab bar up top if you have the browser item selected in the service pane, so as to keep the web pages contained within a certain area of the program.
